Air Intakes vs Rain

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I just got my AEM intake installed a few weeks back and until yesterday I started to have some issues with possible water getting inhaled by the filter. It does have a valve to prevent it but I think some still got in and it was normal rain and not going through puddles. My question is has anyone had this issue and what kind of solutions did you all use. For now, I am going to open it up and make sure it is dry but I am hoping it did no permanent damage. The car is not idling steady and dies if I don't accelerate. Do you all think my TPS was damaged with very little water ?
Any help appreciated.

I like my stock intake which works just as well and is non-problematic. Very few ponies can be added by bolting stuff on a N/A 350z due to the myriad of computers on board which defeat your mods. Send me your money instead of AEM. I will chant a mantra which will give you 16 extra RWHP.

SRL311,
Hahahah that's pretty funny. I thought I did notice some difference in my car's response with the intake. The problem is that the filter is located low (behind and below the driverside headlight) and I think water can get into there. I think maybe the plastic cover maybe loose or something.

A car's computers doesn't necessarily hurt performance added by modifications. In fact, you want a car that can compensate for mods as well as possible. Adding a better intake/exhaust system is PROVEN to add power to this car, and almost every other car [including ferrari's] out there.

So misinformed. Numerous reports of CAI'S, exhaust mods. etc have been dyno measured showing that after the initial installation of said mods, the engine leans out the air/fuel mixture and other computer logic to maintain factory performance settings. The only way around this is by the use of the Unichip, which requires custom programming. Too many dollars/pony for me, except for the HKS true dual exhaust which just looks so way too cool, and for their build quality. I have had an HKS free flow cat back system on my 1990 miata from 1990 until present without a single exhust problem. The gratest benefit was losing the heat sheilds on the OEM exhaust which came loose and rattled due to their cheasy spot welds.

Yes, the ECU adapts to mods and has proven to be a pain to deal with...bolt-ons still show gains. Plus you can reset your ECU every now and then to "undo" the adapting it's done.
I had an AEM for a good year or two in Oregon. It saw some seriously wet and amazing storms and all kinds of conditions. I did not have the bypass valve and never had a single issue.
I vote for an improper install....unless you don't have the undercarriage splashcgaurs installed below the filter.
