A&Q about 350Z
Q:
well, today marks 1 week that the Z is in the shop getting the rear bumper cover replaced. It took a day or two to get the ins. co. to agree to a replacement (rather than a repair). And, doesn't it figure that the in-stock part was busted up when they opened the box? So, they're trying to find another ASAP.
Needless to say, I'm going through withdrawal...had my Z for a little over a month, and I can't live without it!!! It doesn't help that the loaner car is the end-all-be-all of UNcool...a Buick Century. What were they thinkin', for cripes' sakes???
My wife happens to think this is all EXTREMELY funny, by the way. She now calls me "grampa". God, just driving this thing makes me feel old. Where's my cane?
[this post had no point. except to make me feel a bit better. which it did. so there.]

hey Tony, I'm in Rochester, NY. My Z got rear-ended after only 2 weeks, but luckily the damage was very minor. I'm glad they're going to replace it though, instead of trying to fix it...since the bumper cover has cuts and is broken through in a few spots.
I've also told the body shop to NOT blend in the paint to the car. I gave them all of the paint codes (and Nissan supplier part numbers) for Daytona Blue, so hopefully they can match it pretty well. Heck, Nissan doesn't paint the bumper cover with the rest of the car, either.
I figured it was like adding insult to injury to have to get the paint blended halfway up the sides of a brand new car. And, I didn't know if they really knew how to handle the hard clear coat correctly. So, they're going to paint the bumper cover seperately and put in on. Hope I made the right choice!
Hope everything works out OK w/ yours...

aramis,
I feel your pain. My Z is just 4 months old. My only concern is that when they change the bumper, the lines will not flush with the original settings (line). The Z has one of the biggest bumper of any car. The bumper wraps around the tail light and go way underneath the car.
You would think changing a bumper is easy, but I really don't trust anybody.
Perf. Nissan outsource is body shop somewhere.

Tony, just got my car back a few days ago. I can honestly say that they did a better job of lining up the bumper cover than Nissan did.
They also painted just the bumper cover (no blending on the car) and the match is EXCELLENT. I'm VERY glad I told them to do it that way.
The only problem was that the first 2 bumpers that they got in were all dented up and smashed...packaging problems. So, if your shop tells you that as well, it's most likely not just a bunch of bull...
