Nismo Exhaust!

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Does any of you guys have Nismo Exhaust on your car? How does it sound and how much did it cost you? My dealer has them for $1100 for complete set. it's hard to pick which exhaust to buy because I have to hear them before I decide to buy. I'm not buying until I can hear them. they are so many to choose from. I think I like to go with nismo since it is Nissan product.

the borla kit sounds good. go with the kit that gives the most hp/tq increase

You can probably talk the parts guy at the dealership down from the list price. If not, you can always order it from one of the online Nissan guys for $850 or less.
Not much difference in the HP/TQ numbers between the Nismo and the Borla. Each has it's advantages and disadvantages. I've got the Nisno and it sounds and looks great. You won't be disappointed.

A guy on here a while back posted about getting his exhuast custom made at a local muffler shop. I think he said it cost him 500 bucks total and the dyno after showed gains similar to aftermarket exhuast systems. This way too you can try on different mufflers until you find one you like. Not sure why the Z32 and Z33 guys always go with aftermarket exhuast systems. You are paying 900+ dollars to gain very little hp so why not go with a local muffler shop for usually half the price and still get the gains. Most S30, S130, and Z31 guys go with custom exhuasts and have no problems at all. Just an idea. Same goes for intake systems. Most intake systems can be made for much cheaper the only difference is that you don't have the CARB number for it for smog; then again switching back to stock for a smog check ins't that hard to do. Again the older Z's have been doing this for a long time since aftermarket intake systems are usually 100-150 and a homemade system costs 50-60 bucks. Again just an idea.

Thanks 280z/300zx. I have a friend that had a friend do a system for him on his off-road truck. I never thought about him doing the Z until your post. I'm going to check him out and see what he thinks and how much it will cost me to change the sound. I don't care about hp/torq. increase. This Z is powerfull enough to get me into a lot of trouble.

I agree with rlb. I also have the Borla.

If I buy any exhaust system other than nismo would that void my warranty?

Depends. Some dealers will say yes it voids the whole warrenty and some will say it only voids anything to do with the exhuast system. Some dealers are not mod friendly while other are. Had a friend who bought a brand new celica couple years back. Went all crazy and within the first couple weeks got intake, exhuast, header, and computer chip. Said the dealer gave him hassel when he had to take it in for them to check it for something. They told him that before he brings it back that he should switch everything back to stock. Being pissed he tried another dealer 30 miles away and they gave him no problems as long as if the problem with the car wasn't due to the mod. So check your dealer and ask them what thier policy is.

If your modification is the direct cause of the failure then the warranty of that part that failed is your responsibility.
If you put a turbo on and your pistons blow out, it's money out of your pocket. If you put on an exhaust system and your tires are feathering, it's covered.
