How do I make sure I actually going to get a "new" bumper instead of a fixed-upper one. Should I make some secret markings?
Knowing how incompetent these people are, the body shop will mess something up!!

This could be difficult. Damaged bumpers can be repaired or sent out to be ' refinished ' and, usually, a new bumper is only primed and will need to be painted. You may be stuck with a body shop and repaint whether you like it or not. Here's a suggestion that was offered to me by a Honda dealer once. If you want to avoid the pain and agony of a body shop and a repaint ask to swap bumpers with a new Z on the lot if they've got one with the same exterior color.
Good luck.

You cant fix a cracked bumper, the new rear bumper only costs the dealership $120.00. It is only $299.00 MSRP from Nissan.
In order to repair it, you are looking at 4 man hours, no one in their right mind would repair it when a new one would be so much cheaper.

heard stories about mechanic forgetting to put the nut (screw) in after an oil change and there was no oil in the engine.

What more commonly happens is that a careless tech either doesn't replace the drain plug washer ( instead reuses the old flattened one ! ) OR he overtightens the drain plug and flattens out the new washer. Either way you get an oil leak from the drain plug.

Labshark,
I hope you are right. I don't want to get cheated by these people. Knowing how these people do business, I don't expect them to do a complete fix.
My car was there for less than 30 minutes for the oil change. Leaving the car there for 2 days, what can happen?
Edit: it is in Duarte, CA

you left out one important piece of info? Where the hell is Perf Nissan? Duh!

I guess you can always request to see the previous bumper after your new one is installed. Just an idea. Another better idea is you can have them order the new bumper, and they should be able to match the paint by the color codes that they got. Tell them just to paint that piece, and you'll bring in your car whenever they get done painting the bumper. That way you don't have to leave it with them. It shouldn't take that long for them to take of the rear bumper and replace it with a new one.
Also make sure none of the styrofoam is damaged. My friend was rear-ended and everything looked fine from the outside except for a little ding, but when they pulled the bumper off; the styrofoam was all tore up.

Guys,
I brought the car into the dealership this morning. They told me it will take about four days (wow) just to have the new bumper installed and painted.
I have make some marking behind the bumper. If I don't get a new one, I will raise hell!!

IMO you will most likely get a " refinished " bumper that originally came off of another Z. Everybody tells you to check the clearcoat for grit but you also need to visually check for moisture spots under the clearcoat. I'm seeing more and more of this on repainted bumpers. Also, check the undersides of the bumper. Just because those areas don't show doesn't mean that they shouldn't be properly painted and finished.

Guys,
Just got my car back today (thursday). The replacement bumper was excellent. The only flaw was there was some gap between the splash guards (mud guard) and the bumper, but lets not be picky here -hehe. The cause is probably its a new bumper and the splash guard needs time to mold.
Performance Nissan is a top notch dealership!!! They never questioned anything.
Side note: After driving the sentra for 4 days, going back into the Z was a joy. For those who complain their Z is slow or something. Take a week off the Z and come back to it!
I saw a convertible Z (silver) with 19", front grille, radar and have the license mounted on the side going for service I did not see the owner. It was a beauty. Perhaps the owner is from this board? I pinch myself each day for now getting a convertible. Maybe the next model!!
Thanks,
Tony

Is that for a painted bumper?
