A&Q about 350Z
Q:
The only Z's that I have heard of Nissan buying back are the few where they lost a Lemon Law case.

i have heard few people saying that NNA are buying the Zs back, classic, reselling, suspension, markup....
Many words came up, whats the story? who is buying, and how much they paying, and more importantly, WHY they buying?

I am unaware of any official Nissan buyback. On a fairly regular basis I get a mailing from one of my local Nissan dealers ( where I bought my Z ) announcing that they are buying used Zs and want to buy mine. But, IMO, that's just a dealer sales gimmick and the buyback offer is most definitely going to be lowball. ZPOE bought his Z at the same dealership. He should be getting the same solicitations as me.

I have received those buy back notices twice. They just want to give you nothing for your Z as a trade in and mark up a 2004 Nissan vehicle for you to purchase.
Superior Nissan is no more in RSM. They sold to another dealership.
I bet Nissan made them sell. Their sales department was a total rip-off.

Thanks for the update. I had no idea that this ownership change had occurred. We commented in the past how the RSM dealership never seemed to have any new Zs. IMO their Z allocation must have been very limited. As you say, maybe part of the Nissan squeeze to force that ownership out. Did you ever see the picketers out front of the dealership ? LOL ! They must have burned alot of people. I did notice on a couple of visits that they had several used Zs on the lot. After receiving those buyback solicitations I came to the conclusion that maybe they were focusing on building up a used Z inventory since Nissan was sending them few if any new ones.

Nissan bought back 44 70's era 240Z's and restored them for resale. Originally selling for $3500, the refurbished Zs sold for $25,000 and included a 12 month warranty.
Unfortunately, I can't find any recent live links on it. Popular Mechanics did an article but the link is dead now:
Vintage Z Program from Nissan - Popular Mechanics article dealing with factory restoration of the Z

Judging from the URL, it was probably in the May 1998 issue.

You likely won't find any info on the 240Z restoration project because it flopped. Nissan spent a lot of $$ on this project, but the reality is that the market wouldn't support it. They sold a fraction of the initial offering on the original Zs and abandoned the project.
As for the "buyback" for 350Zs, I agree with the other posters here. It's all marketing hype. Ignore it.

The Superior Nissan we have been discussing was located in Rancho San Margartia, California (South of Los Angeles by about 60 miles).
There are also three other Superior Nissan's here in Southern Cal.

240Z program was discontinued due to the lack of replacement parts availability. Market support was strong, every car produced was sold with many still wanting. That is why places like Pierres' Z in Hawthorne CA, (one of the original contracted shops), is still busy cranking out these, now unofficial, cars. It met Nissans goals at keeping the Z name alive during the transition period leading to the 350Z. Good expenditure of marketing monies IMHO.
(Name a car magazine that didn't carry a multi-page article. What does advertising cost per page?).
