Taking my car in to the shop

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I have been putting it off but I'm finally going to do it.
The first thing I noticed was the theft light on the dash does not blink anymore...no biggie so I said I would wait for something major.
Second thing is the passeenger window 'pops' when you roll it down. One quick pop. I saw a TSB on it and it said there isn't anything wrong, just a little tweek to make the 'pop' go away...no biggie so I said I would wait for something major.
Starting yesterday when you open the passenger door the window does not go down that little bit anymore which makes it dangerously close to the roof of the car when you close it back...finally a biggie problem worth taking the car in.
Im bringing it in Thurday to have all of the above addressed and will let you guys know the results.

First, make certain that the passenger window is rolled up all the way. 99.9% rolled up and the window won't drop when you open the door. RE: the window gaps, most Z owners probably have noticed that the gap differs between driver and passenger window. Supposedly these gaps can be tweaked but I haven't found a service dept. yet that can do it. The gap on my driver's side window is almost non-existent. It barely clears the roof when you close the door. On the passernger side I have at least a 1/4 in. gap.

I'd give your car a good bath and dial in the interior as well. Then, make sure you walk the tech or whoever writes you up around the car very thoroughly. Don't just point out the things that are jacked already but more importantly, the things that are not (like dingless doors, pristine wheels, perfect interior, all that...). Unless you have an awesome dealer, they are more concerned with getting your car out of there than preserving its condition. And, as I've found recently, they will lie to you when they damage it.
Good luck.

All 350's have alarms. Just a way to test it. Roll your windows down...lock the doors with the fob. Try reaching inside to open the door from the inside...Just one of the ways I found to set it off...

Be careful, my young friend, for your car may come back a mite worse than it was before it went in.
My left window didn't drop for awhile, so I just gave it a nudge and all was well. Now it's back to working fine. I reckoned the rubber seals may have done something wonky, but I figgered I could live with it.
Good luck.

I tested the alarm soon after I got the car, nothing happens when you try opening the door after locking the doors. The light has never blinked since getting the car (used 2003)...just been putting off taking it in.
I tried rolling the passenger window all the way down then back up and still it just barely moves when you open and close the door. I think I may have even heard it hit the roof of the car a few times when someone would get out and close the door.
As of right now, the car is there. I dropped it off last night and haven't heard anything yet. I tried calling the service department but I get no answer and the front area phone lady tells me they are swamped and can't get to the phone.
I'm starting to get worried :-(
In fact, lemme go try calling again *runs to phone*

Well, they just called me back.
1) They ordered a new theft indicator assembly for the theft light no longer blinking.
2) They ordered a window regulator for the window not dropping down when opening the passenger door.
They said the parts would come in either Saturday or Tuesday (they don't recieve parts on Monday for whatever reason). They said I could get my car but I don't have the time to get it today and bring back another day so I told them to take care of it and I'm sporting my truck for a few days :-)

Careful TwoLwo
Dealerships often have signs or disclaimers saying they are not responsible for any damage to vehicles left on their lot. Even when break-ins or vandalism occurs.
I never trust dealerships with my vehicle. I've had friends get screwed and heard of many people going through the same thing. My friend had her windows smashed and stereo stolen TWO times! The dealership said they weren't responsible and nothing they could do.

Hey, bud, check out a TSB website for your beloved Z32. I found 35 TSBs and a recall for the 1992s - in 1992!!

It gets better: 24 more in '95; 8 in '96; 5 each in '97 & '98; 11 in '99 ... you get the idea.
Cars are complicated machines and things don't always work. Even the exquisite Z32 had its problems when new ... and old.

As of today my car is still at the shop. I called and they said the anti theft part and window regulator part should be in by tomorrow morning, then they will get it fixed. Its been down there since Thursday *cries*
I stopped by there on Sunday when they were closed to see if I saw my car. It has been parked beside a building where the wind kicks up a lot of sand and dirt and because of the corner area, the dirt just gets blown around so now my car is covered with sand, dirt, and the like. It felt like sand paper when I touched the roof of the car. My baby looks so pitiful!
The finance guy back in May said I could get a free wash whenever since I got the car from them kinda late that day and they couldn't give it a good go over...I'm going to call him tomorrow to see if he lives up to his word but I have the feeling he will have forgot who I am LOL.

The longer your car sits on the lot in disrepair the greater the chances are that it will be used for " borrowed parts ". Next time remember to mark and tape key components.

Sorry, but I couldn't resist having a little fun at your expense. But, don't tell me that it doesn't happen. I had two (2) interior trim pieces and a passenger window replaced on my Z and all three replaced parts were exchanged with those from a new Z on the lot ! And, haven't we all marked an oil filter or our tires ( to be rotated ), etc. just to see if the SOBs are doing what they are supposed to be doing ! A few years back my local Honda dealer was having a dispute with their mechanics. The service dept. was all but shut down. Salesman were stripping parts from new Hondas in the overflow lot in order to repair customer vehicles !
