A&Q about 350Z
Q:
i need to decide in the next couple of days whether i'm going to buy an 04.5 z. the control arm fix weighs in heavily. so i'd like to get a little more info about it if anyone has any. my question is... how does a new control arm fix the feathering? it seems like it would make adjustments easier, but adjustments aren't the problem. the problem is after an adjustment the Zs wheels gradually fall back out of alignment.
A:
Understand that two lower ball joints allow for the suspension to shift to a toe out condition when you brake and slight toe in when cornering. If the lower control arms cant keep the alignment in specification under dynamic conditions there is the ability to allow the suspension to move. So, a stronger drag link or the addition of leading arm to augment the lower control arms would be a good fix. I have not seen the fix as of yet but the tire wear on my car is not that big a deal to me as the roads in Las Vegas suck so bad the tires wear out anyway.

vonsudderth,
you nailed it on the bullseye! He's right, there is alot of suspension movement that occurs, especially when driving hard and braking hard, or autocrossing. The thing is though, vonsudderth, the aluminum suspension parts have a tendency to "flex" if put in conditions where the parts can't handle the specified weight limit capacity. This is a simple fix, and actually Nissan would save alot more money distributing suspension braces to dealerships for recalls, instead of replacing entire parts! Although, not many people would agree to that, as it is not a sure shot in the long run.

Gentlemen,
I have test driven the base z and was thrilled with it. Got excited about performance for the first time. I began reading some of the ratings and the issues from the forums and have been concerned about the tire cupping and approached a dealer on it. I have cut and pasted his response below in the event anyone wishes to question him further.
Would be interested in knowing that the fix is for real before I jump into a z. I don't have the patience or the time to be going to the dealer every month for fixes, so would be interested in this dealers response to a more savy person.
Will watch for further feedback
