A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I just had a run in with the western dealer ops manager for Infinity. We got to talking about the Z and G35, SCCA, Nismo and a new Infinity dealership going in. We also got into some of the goodies coming out from Nismo and Nissan.
Nissan does have a fix in the works. The catch is our Zs will have to give up a bit of our handling. (this can be fixed with aftermarket suspension though) The TSB "fix" is going to be a part swap with the G35.
I guess both Z and G35 have their problems. The G35 guys are going through front brake pads like crazy. Maybe I won't be pursuing the lemon law after all! :)
ThriftyZ, you're ok. I was a bit skeptical but after talking to this guy; I got a glimps into what Nissan is working on. Thanks for the post and thanks for changing the posts you've been making.

I already reported the " Fix " which will be one of the FEW changes on the 2005 Zs. I don't know the name of the suspension component that is being changed but, if you look under the front of your Z ( you may need to view it on a lift ) you will see an elbow-shaped arm adjacent to each front wheel. This arm is fixed, that is NOT adjustable, on current Zs. My sources ( 5 Japanese Nissan employees ) tell me that this arm, important to front suspension alignment, will be adjustable on the 2005s. This adjustibility will supposedly allow for the alignment necessary to solve the tire feathering issue.

Ok, ok. sptbiz can have the credit for reporting the "Fix." Happy?
The name of the part you're looking for is the lower control arm.
Yes, the new lower control arm will probably be adjustable. I don't know if the part will have the Nismo stamp on it though.

That's what I heard. I when I was talking with the area manager, he said it wouldn't be a recall but another TSB. What I heard was the lower arm would be replaced. The new one will allow more precise Toe and Camber adjustments.
He did say it would be about 3 - 6 months out though.

panman1978,
There is more to it than just the control arm. Nissan with be going the route of integrating more suspension parts as a whole piece. Rather than having seven different suspension components....they will have something around four or five parts....hmmmm....sounds familiar.....oh yeah, Lexus has been doing that from their Toyota counterparts....for that "smooooth ride." Anyhow, I'll keep you guys posted on new news.

how does a new control arm fix the feathering? it will help adjustments, but adjustments aren't the problem. the problem is after an adjustment the Zs wheels gradually fall back out of alignment. an adjustable control arm doesn't fix that.
