A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Just got my front tires replaced under the warranty (2003 Touring 6 speed). However, at 25 K miles, my rears are shot. What should I expect to pay for Eagle F1 GS D3 for my 18 inch rear tires? BTW...I live in NY.
Also, you once responded that tire brands can be mixed, front to back. But must the speed ratings also be matched, front to back?
Thank you

This is the scoop, You really should not run different types of tires on the back than the front, if you use your Z as it's design. Doing this could very well get you into trouble when doing so. It's roadability will suffer during
cornering, when one of the two different treads hits it's limit and breaks traction and the other hangs in there. Well you don't want to be in the drivers seat when that happens!
As for the speed rating being different, it's like a chain the weakest link
is where it breaks. However if you never exceed the speed rating of the
lowest rated tire your OK. Hope this answers your Q.

i recommend 275/40/18's on the rear
brands and speed rating can be mixed
just make sure the 2 frts and 2 rears are the same type, brand, sizes, speed ratings.
the tires should all have at least a v or z speed rating.
i run 255/40/18 fronts and
275/40/18 rears on the factory rims.

How is the wear on your new tires so far?
What is your mileage on them?
Thanks...
It's almost time for me to buy rear tires. Nissan has replaced my fronts twice now at 15,500 miles.

wear has been great.
no feathering or cupping.
i've got about 10k miles on the tires.
as i have said before, the tires are the cause of all the problems on the z.
it's not the car or the alignment.
nissan just made a bad choice in picking that tire.

Hey jjgdyr, I saw this show on Spike TV 2 weeks ago, (Some truck dude show). He was putting on these tires that were made with silicone on the outside and inside of these truck tires to reduce uneven wear (feathering? I don't know)... Is this what we should look for in a tire?

Thank you all for the help...looks like we still have differing opinions re brand/type matching front-to-rear....
