A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Tonight I will be going to my local dragstrip to do some racing. I know this car isnt meant for drag racing but its fun as hell and legal.
Two of my friends will be going with me. One just bought a 2004 WRX and the other a 2004 SRT-4. I am not concerned with the WRX but racing the Neon scares me. The 04 model has a Quaife LSD and an extra 10 hp and some extra torque(not sure how much) and he has been talking alot of s**t. I know mine will always look better, but I dont want to get beat by him. What do you think? I only have a couple of mods done.
I will post my times tomorrow.

"I am not concerned with the WRX"
WRX is as fast as the Z. Better hope the driver sucks. The old SRT4 was faster than the Z, so what do you think the new one is? Slower? Guess that answers your question. Better hope the SRT4 driver sucks too.

yep im diehard for the Z but if your talking just 1/4 mile times your in for a tough shootout with either of those cars. its a drivers race, period.
A:
From what I have read recently, I have seen the Z range from 13.8 - 14.3 and the SRT-4 from 13.8-14.2 so that is why I think it would be close. The WRX is as fast and I know that but my friend is afraid to launch at such a high rpm to get that good time. That is why I am not concerned.

i cant believe we r scared of a neon. a dodge neon. lol. i never thought a dodge neon could be fast, but it goes to show u can make any car fast. oh well, at least our cars will look good as they go by.

You should be able to take the wrx. I've got a lot of personal experience with both wrx's and a sti. The sti's best was 13.6 and he did many runs, thoroughly perfecting his technique. The regular wrx has substandard high end, it will run low 14's best, probably mid/high 14's with normal driver. The neon should beat you, sorry. Just ask him for a rematch at the 100k mile mark, if his car hasn't caught on fire.

If the WRX blew out first gear already then it's all your friend's fault.

I have to agree with Ven, you lose you lose, no point making excuses. If you win revel in your glory of the win.

It the weight!!! (Yes, I know you have to make more practice runs to decide what's the best RPM's to come off the line and when to upshift, etc. ) However, next time go to the track with a 1/4 tank of gas, take out the spare, jack and everything else that's not glued down. Every bit helps! Your friends don't have to know.
The Z needs any weight advantage it can get. The WRX and Neon weigh hundreds of pounds less than the Z. Hey, if you can cut off another 1/10th second off your times then that's still something. When I used to go to the track (not with my Z) I would lighten the car up as best as possible. You will be surprised what you can pull out of your Z with a few pounds removed.

When I had my '97 Integra GSR, I even went as far as cutting out the side impact support beam in the door. That shaved around 40lbs off my car. NOT recommended. Now that I look back on that, it wasn't the smartest decision. The GSR got t-boned by a psycho lady in a Camary. Her radiator was about 1.5 ft away from me after the hit.
Zoldman had got the right idea. I used to fill up my tank halfway even on the street. The VQ is one of the best powerplants, but 3000+lbs is still a lot of weight to haul around.
