Tire Feathering Survey

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Curious - how many Z owners had tire feathering and Nissan's cheap ass tire rotation fix cured the problem competely without having to replace the tires later? Type "worked" if lasted more than 3000 miles. Type "Not worked" if tires had to be replaced.
A:

not worked, but they refuse to replace my tires a second time until they reach the cutoff point in the latest TSB
A:

6,700 miles, tires replaced didn't work.
12,500 miles, tires replaced with the latest TSB alignment, noise is starting to come back at 15,600 miles.
12/02 build, purchased 2/10/2003.
Still love my Z and will deal with it.

There must be faar different degrees of severity of this problem. My Bridgestones started feathering @ 5K (at least that's when I first noticed the roar). I'm now @ nearly 36K with the same tires. While I'm not quite bald yet on the inside edges, they won't go much farther. But 36K for a set of tires? I'm not complaining. I didn't have the dealer do the align - I am petrified of their skills (lack). I do NOT want my Ray's scratched.
A:

8000 miles feathering loud. Alignment done. !0,000 miles tires replaced.
12,000 miles feathering returned - tires rotated and alignment adjusted.

tx350z,
How many miles, how do you feel about all of the upgrade investments that you have made, and have they still not cured the problem. Don't you have pilots, Eibachs, Bling wheels, and other suspension mods? Still feathers? This is what terrifies me. No known sure fix. Some say no feathering, such randomness, seems like no definitive solution. I would like to keep the car but cannot stand the Front tire problems.
A:

I'd be interested in getting a feathering Z on the rack to find out how much the toe/camber is off. Some people suspect the tires and some suspect suspension geometry. So far, the only thing we've heard from Nissan is an alignment and tire swap.
Maybe Nissan knows what's going on and are covering up their mistake. (Bad choice of tires) Or Nissan doesn't have a clue because one of it's engineers came in with a hang over one day.
I'm interested to see if my Z will start feathering. I'd like to see if I can find the inferior link in this equation. Maybe the solution is as simple as a camber kit.

9,000 mi - noticed feathering
12,000 mi - stock tires finally in and changed w/ original alignment specs
27,000 miles - feathering back, tires on order at dealer. Will get alignment
with new specs and new stock tires.
A:

Noise started at 15K miles. They replaced the front tires for free with alignment. I have put 2k miles on the new ones., So far so good.
A:

panman, my toe alignments were HUGELY out of whack. they could not have been attributed to driving alone. thus, the assumption is they were somewhat out of whack to start with.
on the alignment, here were the specs:
camber range -1.3 - .2 LF:before -.5, after -.6 RF: before -1, after -1
caster range 7.4 - 8.9 LF:before 8.3, after 8.3 RF: before 8, after 8
toe range .00 - .08 LF:before -.12, after .03 RF: before -.13, after .03
front cross camber range -.8 - .8 before: .5, after .4
front cross caster range -.8 - .8 before: .2, after .2
total toe range .0 - .16 before: -.25, after .06
camber range -2.1 - -1.1 LR: before -2.2, after -1.6 RR: before -1.6, after -1.6
toe range .04 - .11 LR: before -.02, after .09 RR: before .01, after .08
therefore:
crappy bridgestone RE040's + factory misalignment + shipping problems = feathering.
