THIS IS NOT A FLAME POST! THIS IS A SIMPLE COMPARISON! PERIOD!
You know, paying almost $40k for a sports car and not being able to get good quality, solid, well engineered sports car is a shame. I mean, look at companies who have bad reputations like Ford. Ford has a $34k Cobra that is really fast, surprisingly well built, Brembo SVT brakes equipped, cool styling, supercharged-forged internal'd engine, and a beefy T56 tranny (that is also found in a Viper, military tanks, and some semi-trucks...hint, hint, STRONG). Now, if Ford can accomplish all this and sell the car for $34k, Nissan should also be able to, blind-folded. Yet, something is keeping Nissan from doing all this, and that is....COST! Also, please do not reply about the Cobra's cheap interior, as the 350Z's plastic materials are not very desirable. So my question is...what category does a $40k 350Z fall into?

I paid $28k for mine, and I think it is just fine. Also price wise, the import cars are always going to be more expensive than the domestics. I would imagine that every Z gets an import tax since it is made in Japan, and that the tax is built into the price of the vehicle.
The SVT Cobra interior design is out-dated, not much has changed since the 1990's. The New 2005 Mustang however is a different story.

It all comes down to your taste, if you want a mustang, then get a mustang, there are only 20 million on the road. From the V6 model to the Cobras.
I like the fact I do not see many z's and makes my car unique.
Yes the cobra mustang is faster and would win in a race but I am not racing 24/7 so I will stick with my Z. Did I mention it looks better?
When I saw the Z for the first time it was love at first site, when I see a mustang it is like oh that's a nice car and that is that.
The more posts I read the more I think Z owners are like Maxima owners, they know a good car and when they see it and are very loyal.
My only regret is that I stuck with MR2's and Eclipses for as long as I did.

I agree with Talon32. Heres my story: When I was around 14 or 15yrs old when I first saw a Z32 come through the carwash where I worked. It was love at first sight. Blk on blk dual exhaust, I had no idea of the specs. but man that car just looked fast. I did alot of research on the car and learned so much about them. When I got my license I told my parents I dont want any other car and that I'll wait until I have enough money to by the car I had always wanted. Unfortuntly my budget was rather limited to around 10G my father said and that he would finance that much only. I drove my parents car for awhile until I finally found a Z at a good price. I found a blk 1990 NA 5spd 65K miles and I really wanted the TT but the TT I also saw needed new turbos soon and when the guy told my dad what it cost for new turbos, my only option was an NA. I drove it almost for about 6 months and realized this car is not an everyday driving car. I live up in Boston so New England weather sucks to owning a sports car. So from 1999 when I first bought the car until now 2004, every year I fix it up and make it faster and only drive it on sunny days and warm nights its garaged 8 of the the 12 months. I just picked up a cheap car to drive me to college and work since then. The NA as we all know is limited to how much power we can get but Im pretty much am getting the most from my NA engine. My 1/4 time is high 13's without nos. So thats my story and my next project is rebuilding my engine to a TT. With that said my buddy has a Cobra and man its just ridiculous fast. Its a nice car don't get me wrong and im not gonna sit hear and knock mustang owners. I have to say Im not crazy about the body and the fact that you see one at every set of lights is a turn off. The reason I choose the Z is because it looks exotic and much more unique design to it that most cars today just can't touch. Now I just want the power as well so I can beat his cobra which I will when I put my TT engine in. Its like the WRX that has 300Horspwr, the car looks like $hit in my eyes, poor design and its a subaru, they should stick to making what they are good at, OFFROAD vehicles. Just my 2 cents...

****, their are 15 cobras in my apartment complexe, probably 45 mustangs total, I only counted the cobras. I have the Only Z here that I have seen to date.
It may be fast, have strong internals, but it's still a ford. Fix Or Repair Daily. You couldn't pay me to drive one. I'm not shitting, I refuse to drive the Ford Service Vehicle we have at work. I'll only take the Dodge Trucks or Vans.

Not sure of where 350z falls into what category, but I can tell you that the Ford falls into the POS category. Know what i mean.

One reason Ford can sell the SVT so cheap is that it shares 95% of its parts with every other V6 or GT Mustang around, and the sell +100K of these. And the engr cost is lower since its already based off another car.
Nissan shares some of the 350Z parts with other cars, but they can't get the numbers that the Mustang sells.
Actually I feel the the 350Z is a tad bit pricey if you consider that all the good tires/brakes stuff only comes on the track edition, which list pretty high.

I don't think you realize what kind of motor a Cobra has. FORGED internals, IRON block, SUPERCHARGED!!! Sound familiar? It should, as some of the best, longest lasting cars in the world have....i.e. Supra! The 03' & 04' Cobra is the best car Ford ever built. Also, I seem to notice that many of you 350Z owners are turning away from the usual: "Mustangs are too slow, ugly, etc..." and begining the: "there are too many Mustangs on the road, etc..." My question is this: What is so special about a 350Z that one is willing to pay almost $30k (almost $40k for track)? I mean, it gets out-performed by many other cars in its price range... 287hp is alot of power....true....for a 2700lb car....not a +3300lb car. More mechanical probelms/issues compared to a Mustang...funny aint it, huh! Also, please stop thinking that the new Nissan's are the same quality as the old Nissan's, because THE ARE NOT! Nissan is not even owned by a Japanese corporation.... But, I understand, a loyal customer is a loyal customer....

NISSAN IS NO LONGER JAPANESE!!! NOTICE THE QUALITY BETWEEN TOYOTA, HONDA, and ummmmmmm....OH YEAH NISSAN. Toyota/Lexus is number one in every known car reports. Honda/Acura is second. What place is Nissan in? Oh yeah, way behind KIA and Ford. See, if you have any "knowledge" about cars, you will know that the Tremec T56 transmission is/has been the strongest production car transmission ever produced, and the Getrag V160 is right underneath it. I am not even a U.S. born American. I came to this country in 1989 and I have many import cars in my family (mostly Toyota's). I have owned one Nissan and currently own a "special" american car...trust me, don't ever try showing off your car in next to me in traffic, as I will teach you the "how to get owned!" The 300ZX setup a great reputation for the 350Z, but the 350Z just doesn't deliver, I'm sorry. The 350Z does look nice though...

its true, fords suck. we bought a new F-150 STX and honestly, i'm not crazy about it. my mom likes it a lot, but i dont wanna hurt her feelings. i'd rather go buy a chevy any day of the week, period. (we have a suburban Z71, damn, its nicccceeee). anywayz, u see a mustang from a distance and ur like, oh gosh, another frickin mustang (can u really call them that anymore, although the '05's ore gonna be sweet, ford will overproduce and every high school girl will be driving one). comes up closer and u notice the body kit and hood, u say, cool a SVT cobra. nothing that special, just a mustang on steriods. i dunno, but every 350Z i see i'll stare at it as long as i can cuz they are rare and verrry beautiful. and to build up the 350 a little bit, the 350 outperformed a bunch of real nice coupes. saw it in a mag. forgot the name. lost to a S2000. believe that, a little honda.(cool, i admit.) but it beat a porsche boxter, audi TT quattro, bmw z4, and another i cant remember. it made me proud.

Hey Z4FUN...The WRX STI is an OFFROAD rally car. Take a look at what this car can do(in racing spec.)on SPEED, in the WRC...Looks? Who cares. It's about function on these kind of cars.

I doubt it if someone says cobra mustang is faster than Z in the race.
In straight line yes, but racing is a totally different story.
I could see many cars are fast, but after 20 or 30 times of hard breaking, everything changed. I don't know how cobra behave when entering a narrow or tight corner, especially racing with cars like (Z, S2000, evo, sti, rx8 ), and I have never read an article saying cobra has a good lap time comparing with others.
Consider the race track in Japan is big, in many other countries the tracks are even smaller, or much smaller.

Just because we own one we need not go through life with blinders on. The Z is the most innovative sexiest car ever to hit the road with really good performance considering natural aspiration V-6. Next subject. bang for the buck the Cobra is one bad sob. Performance wise, the Cobra is in another class. Lacks in quite afew other catagories but don't kid yourself, just wave and gently pull away from the lights like your mom told you that you couldn't street race. Before you question my convictions, when most of you were still in grade school I had already owned 3 last gen 300's, 83 turbo zx, and the original Z that most of you don't even know about, a 66 fairlady Z with the 2000 eng not the US available 1600. In closing would not trade for a Cobra, total package is just not up with the Z car.

Ok. The post about the Z beating all but the s2000 was in a car and driver comparison magazine for convertibles in that class. If you go back a few months, they had another comparison in which the 350 z bested an Audi TT,s2000, AND a mustang Mach 1. ("Hot tin roofs" december 2002) Granted, the mustang actually made 2nd ( of course, their exact words were "The last time a mustang finished this high in a comparo was four years ago, and there were only two cars in the test. the other was a camaro, and it won") The Mach 1 is only 0.7 seconds slower than the cobra and shares basically everything else with it, minus a few suspension pgrades. It was described as " the steering is slow and insulatedor 'sworn to secrecy'. Also not to mention that the z set the fastest average around the track by a longshot and this is with full touring trim. AND its quarter mile was only .3 seconds slower than the ALMIGHTY crapstang. And yet, you still go for a car that every mom, daughter, cheerleader and stupid punk kid has, over a much rarer( and much more refined) Z. I pity you young man.

It seems to me (from the replies) that most of you actually paid a good amount for your rides because they are RARE? If that is seriously the reason why you purchased your 350Z, then i think Nissan finally got away with designing a two door Maxima.
Look at all of you spending sooooo much money on superchargers, turbos, etc... to make your stock 350Z (that is under warranty) fast. Why? Go buy a car that is already fast STOCK with a warranty.
Finally, if some of u bought the 350Z becuase its a close competitor to the S2000, Boxster, Audi TT, etc... GREAT!....so then, why failure posts about loosing to a STI, EVO, Mustangs, etc...

hate to say it, but I had a '01 mustang G.T. conv. It was a pos. It was good new - but after 15k mile it started to fall apart! I will never buy another american made car! I own a '93 300 now w/ 71k miles. It is still a better car than the mustang was new. I still haven't got a 350 - but it's just a matter of time.....

Every one who has posted in this thread should take a look at the posts in the 90-96 forum. Just about everyone there uses it as a means to find help with problems they are having and to better their knowledge of their cars. They don't fight back and forth like school children over someones opinions. Does it really matter if you have or had a Z? I had a Z but then sold it, that doesn't mean that I can't give my advice and opinions on this site. Stop acting like fools and grow up.

I read all of you bashing fords all the time, but how many of you have actually owned one? My dad bought Fords through my entire childhood because we knew a Ford salesman and he gave us a good deal. Out of all of them (89 Taurus, 89 Taurus SHO, 91 Explorer, 98 Explorer, 98 Expedition, 94 Aerostar, 92 Ranger, 94 Ranger, and 3 F150s ranging from 78 to 2000), every single one of them was more reliable than any of my Zs (two 76s, an 85 and a 95).
I think most of you Ford bashers are just regurgitating what you've heard from other people that were regurgitating what they heard.
Now I'm not saying 350Zs are crap and I'm not saying Mustangs are Gods chosen automobile, but I think you guys need to realize that Zs are the only good thing out there. I like Mustangs, too, although at heart I will always be a Z driver, I will probably own a Mustang someday. There are certain eras of mustangs I will avoid (72-86, 94-2004 for example) for styling reasons, but I think the 2005 looks damn good. I don't personally like the styling of the 350Z much (DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT SAYING IT'S POORLY DESIGNED, ITS JUST NOT MY TASTE) and finally Ford is doing something cool with technology by jumping on the variable valve control wagon, with a system that turns off the second intake valve at cruising to save gas and increase low-end torque, and they're actually building this platform for independent rear suspension, instead of just slapping it on as an afterthought.

Power and Associates have reported, the car really lacks original Nissan quality seen in older Nissan cars....I am sorry, but this has been my experience. I for one seriously got a lemon. I must have had every problem known in the 350Z TSB. I am mad at the following: Recent Nissan quality/ownership change, dealeship carelessness, and overall value to performace ratio. I have said this before and you guys can even check my older posts, "I never said 350Z's are garbage, or that they are the worst car out there, all I ever did was post my opinion as to what other competition was out there for a better price and value (SVT Cobra, STI, etc....)." I now own a Corvette Z06 and I am happy with my purchase, I did own a Z so I have the right to be on this forum to see what new issues and such, arise! Yet, I had to run into dick-heads like digital, who honestly is nothing more than a hard-core Z fan who will never wake up from Z heaven and will always believe his car is the best thing that ever happened next to condoms. I am not a redneck and I am not a teenager. To prove it, I live in Licoln Park in Chicago, anybody who lives near by can come and see for yourself.

wow... lots of hatin goin on. it doesnt matter if its a ford or a vette or anything, its all personal prefrence... i own a 77' 280... and im in love with it. i damn well know its not the best car out there, but its in its own class. i look foward to purchasing a 350, i like em.. and years and years they are mistaken for porsches (mine was... i chuckeled). for us who like em, we buy them cuz we like them, screw price... its the value to the person that matters... dickwad(thrifty)
