Z changes on the horizon ... wishful thoughts

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Just based on the various articles I have read in Motor Trend and Car and Driver, etc. the all new Z will be out in late 2008 (2009 model), with a bump up to 3.8 Liters and at least 350 HP. the car will be lighter, based on the GTR chassis/frame. Will it be called the 380Z? I have no idea. If it turns out to be 350HP I guess they can still call it the 350Z, lol. The base car should still be under $30K. Well if all this is true then I guess I will be trading my 350Z in for the new one.
The key for me, is torque. If they can get this baby to produce 300 ft. Lbs. with 350HP, and with a lighter car, then watchout!!!!
Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I am just passing along what I have read.
A:

"I have a feeling 2007 will be the HR motor with 310+ HP and a reduction in the base packages offered. ie. Probably going to get rid of the Track and base package. Some improvments here and there but nothing major."
All the official specs and changes to the 2007 have already been released, its just nobdy has actually gotten to test drive one yet.

Keep in mind guys that it's 306hp and 268 torque with the new system of rating power. With the old system they used last year it's probaly 310+ and 270+. I'm still not feeling that hood though. Maybe when I see it in person.

Active head restraints sounds interesting. But it sounds like if you want the stuff that used to be in the Track, you have to go all the way up to Grand Touring. Reasures me that I made a good decision when I bought my 06 Track.
Ok found some engine data.
I just spend an hour comparing different engine dyno charts between the 04 VQ35DE the 06 VQ35DE and 07 VQ35HR and there is really not much difference. The 07 has an improvement in low end torque (same as the 06 but comes in 400 RPM lower) and a slight increase in peak but all have nice flat torque curves. The 07 makes its extra HP with the additional 500 rpms that it turns and nothing else.
The HR is an improvement, but in the same regards as the 06 was an improvement over the 04 ish model year. Yes, I did take into account the different SAE dyno standards and Im going to continue to study these at work where I can ask my Japanese co-worker to translate some of the additional comments.

i honestly havent really delved into the HR....but peak numbers arent the only difference though. Fuel efficiency is supposed to be up 10% and the engine is supposed to have some beefed up internals i believe.
www.vq35hr.com is supposed ot have all the info

That whatever comes from Nissan, there will be a stop to posts on this forum entitled "What the new Z should have been" accompanied by another long nose-short deck one-off/prototype/kit car/show car/somebody-found-an-old-car photo.
Now that's wishful thinking, buddy.

The HR powered Z's should be much faster compared to the pre 07 350z's. If it has the exact specifications as the HR used in the new G35's, then based on the performance numbers, we should expect the 07 Z's to run low 13's. The old G35 sedan ran a 14.6 and the new VQ powered G sedan runs a 13.9. Considering the weight diference between the new G35 and the 350z, and the possible slight HP increase, the new HR powered Z should be what weve all been waiting for.
A:

thats the 2009 800Z right? sh!t, Im putting my 350 up for sale now. 1000hp and 922lb tq.....the RX-8 aint got nuthin on that.

I'll have 2 kilos of whatever this guy is smoking. How does your "slight HP increase" and a minor weight difference translate into "what we've all been waiting for"?
A:

does the 2007 G35 have the HR motor? Looking at yahoo autos the G35 only has 293hp. Also looking at the pics I don't see any difference between the 07's and the 06's. I remember seeing concept pics of the G35 a few months ago and the 07 looks nothing like that. So is all the talk of the a redesign of the G35 with the HR motor mean a 08 model or did yahoo screw up on the data for the 07? I mean compare the 06 and the 07 on yahoo's site and it looks like the exact same car with the exact same peak hp and torque numbers minus 5 for the 07 all with the same peak rpm points.

neither one of those cars should have been the next Z.that red & black one looks nothing like the first gen Z's.they need to reproduce the 240 like everyone else has been doing with their cars.i've had a 70 and a 2004 and currently own a 71.those two cars that were posted do not deserve to were the Z badge.sorry if this bursts anyone's bubble but i've been a Z enthusiest for quite some time.i'll say it again nissan needs to bring back the 240.narrow design with a long nose.2.4 liter with 240hp in a car weighing in at about 2400 lbs for around thirty grand.plane and simple.
