A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Something doesn't sound right here. On my 300zx, I went 70k before doing the fronts and got an idiot light brake warning which I drove on for several days. The car has 112k on it now and the rears are still original. Even if you and I represent the extremes in driving style, there shouldn't be THAT big a difference.

ER, I don't feel like checking the manual right now, how often should 350z owners change their pads? I have just over 13K miles, no track time.
A:
Sorry to say this, but driving styles and conditions do affect brake wear. Unless you can demonstrate to the Nissan dealer that the excessive wear was caused by a malfunction, you don't have a prayer of getting it covered under warranty.
I've driven my '03 track model at the track ever since my break-in was complete. I've changed the pads twice within 21K and will probably be swapping out the rotors the next time around as well. As a racer, I can't endorse the use of drilled rotors as a replacement for a street driven car. Too much pad wear and increased stress risers (cracks) on the rotors themselves. Slotting is OK, if done properly by the manurfacturer.

If you have a manual tranny and you drive it right then your brake pads will last significantly longer because you use the engine's power to slow you down when decelerating, if you do that all the time its like you use your brakes half as much.

they may replace the pads at no cost but your on you own with the the rotors.my wife has a honda odysee mini van at 19k the van would shimmy when braking at freeway speeds.obviously a brake problem dealer said we'll replace the brakes and machine the rotors.they stated they wouldn't replace the rotors.even when i pissed and moaned about the brakes wearing so prematurely.i have a friend who's a machanic and he basicaly said it's a wearable part.if you can have them replace anything at no cost thats a plus.my wifes a little hard on the breaks but thats because the freeway she drive's to get to work is down hill for atleast 8miles.good luck with that but unfortunitely that applies to all cars.unless you have a dealership that will just do it to save face with the customer.it's pretty standard were ever you go.

$550.00 sounds a bit steep - assume this included labor? It is really a fairly easy job to DIY - how much were the parts?

tell your wife to downshift on the hill by turning off the overdrive
