A&Q about 350Z
Q:
i entered a show last weekend and the one before and got a trophy in each...not bad for my first two shows and it being bone stock right now. the first one was 'top 50' w/ about 250 entries and the last one was 3rd in class out of approx 20 in the sport compact class. kinda funny to see how mad people get when they get beat by a stock car when the have crazy $ in their rides. anyway was very suprised each time. honestly i think the color had a lot to do with it...you really dont see many brickyards, at least here in new york.

Congrats...but people will get pissed at things like that. My father in law builds street rods. We've gone to many shows with him...and every now and then, he'll enter into an open show.
I swear that this happened, and even I was a bit annoyed. Open show, 100+ cars. 80% of them damned nice, 19% were works in progress, and 1% were brand spanking new cars with nothing done on them. There were like 5 judges, and each judge picked a "judges pick" winner. One of the redneck judges picked a brand new, less than 15,000 miles, damn near off the show room floor Chevy Pickup. And to make it worst...it was stock. Guess it was his dream truck or something. But overlooking works of art for a stock pickup is just retarded. Many people there were aggrevated and did complain. My in-laws don't care...they just laugh it off...they are there to have fun, not get trophies...but it is annoying.

only in the sport campact class, newer imports, were people annoyed, just a few but theirs were 'in progress'. in the first show only 3 newer cars won trophies and everyone was happy. like you said im there to have fun...there is a group of us 23 cars that go to shows together, hang out and relax. normally we average about 10 or so per show, depends how far and work schedules. its a good place to hang out with others who love cars too, also to get ideas for future projects. besides its not the car owners fault how the judges vote u know?

I know...you can't be mad at the car owners...just asshat judges. It seems like the show you were at is a completely different situation than what i was talking about. THe show I was refering to had a vast majority of classics, and street rods. Alot of old restored American Muscle, street rods going back to '23 T-buckets (want one). With a few new cars, a vette here and there, a late model camaro or mustang or two. But most of the late model cars were pretty heavily modded themselves. I can see where people would be annoyed by a judge that would overlook works of art and select an out of the box chevy pickup without so much as aftermarket rims or a lift...pure stock.
The guy was welcome to bring his truck in...he was proud of it, and should be. But a judge picking a car in good condition thats 3 months old, and still has that new car smell over cars that are 30, 40, or even 50 years old, and older in just as good condition as a brand new truck is just lame in my eyes.
