quarter mile.

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

motor trend says 13.7
road and track 14.4
why so much of a difference? when the car came out it said around
$30,000 for a under 14 second car. which is one of the reasons i bought it. road and track shows that the s2000 has a faster quarter mile and rx 8 as the same as the z.
ive heard it depends how the driver is driving the car, is it tru that to really get it fast u barely push the clutch down when switching gears, and really good drivers wont even use the clutch when really trying to get a low time?
13.7 and 14.4 is a big difference. why so much?

Also, wind direction, temperature and tire pressure are some of the factors you should count on.

There are a lot of factors to deal with when running the 1/4 mile. One time I took my 280z out one week and then 3 days later went out again and ran .4 sec slower. What changed? Not my driving but temp, track conditions, wind, etc. Thats why they always say the best way to find out how fast your car really is is to go and test it. Keep in mind that altitude also can play a big factor. If motor trend races on a different track than road and track then that could account for some of the difference. Drivers skill is a big thing but I'm pretty sure that all the guys that work for these mags pretty much drive equally good. If you can watch a specific popular car in a certain mag, lets say motor trend. Watch the articles and specs over a peroid of a 6months to a year. You will see that the 1/4 mile times will range usally between .3 secs. Basicly in Jan they may have tested the Mitsu EVO at say 13.3 but then in July they ran it at 13.6 and in Aug a 13.5. Use the mags reported times to give you an idea of what it will do but don't take it for a fact set in stone. I mean people have reported hitting 13.7 and 13.8 in a stock 350z which is faster than mag reported times.

i've beaten every car that's been purported in here to be unbeatable but in the same price league. suffice it to say, that when we are worrying about tenths of a second or so differences, even any subsecond differences, there are too many factors that can have that type of influence. whether it's driver capability, wind, tires, or cicadas, it's not a meaningful discussion except to say it's a toss-up.

I just read the most recent issue of Motor Trend. They list the Z running around 5.3 to 60 and 13.9 in the quarter. The times are in the back of the magazine.
A:

Motor Trend has clocked the fastest times of any that has been tested so far.5.3 and 13.77.For some reason most of the fastest times have been the Track.C&D tested the Track Z at 5.4.
