A&Q about 350Z
Q:
In previous cars I've owned, the engine computer shuts down if a certain max speed was reached. Does the Z do the same? I got my 2003 350Z Track up to 143 MPH before my pasenger-side speed alarm went off (my wife). Had to shut her down (the car, not the wife) :-)
Just wanted to know if the Z has a cutoff point - it scared the s**t out of me in my other car the first time I pegged it. Thought I blew the engine.

I remember reading that the 350z has one but I can't remember what it is. I believe it's somewhere in the 150-160 mark.

159...pretty sure

I heard the ECU limits you to 154.
I have only had my Z up to 120. Felt like I was only going 85.

DaddyPhatSaks,
After reading up on it, the specs say 155 MPH max, so a cutoff of 156 makes sense.
The conversation with wifey as we were humming down a 50 mile straightaway on I5 at 140+ went something like: Oh come on baby, I can outrun this thing falling out of an airplane, _without the car_... Not with me you don't, says she. She prefers terra firma and speeds well under 100.
I'll guess I'll have to check the real top end by myself some day :-)

it is 156
I've been there and couldn't go beyond
of course, I am relying on the fact that my digital speedometer is correct when it displays "156" and that all Z's are the same in this respect and that my one time attempting to reach top speed is indicative of the maximum (meaning if I were to try again, car wouldn't behave differently)

I remember 155 mph is the cutoff.

Goin up or down hill ? I won't trust top speed. (wind direction and temperature differs all the time)
I think the best way to know how your car performs is to average the lap time on the tracks for at least 20/30 miles each non stop,(swap drivers if testing several cars)
A:
nope theres no engine cut off, top speed is supposedly 156 but people have said they got theres to read a little over that
A:
Many articles have reported that the Z is electronically limited at 156mph.Either way it still is fast.
A:
the ECU is electronicaly limited at 156...if you get the ECU upgrade it changes your air to fuel ratio, removes the governer, and raises the RPM cutoff from 6600 to 7200 rpm (even though you dont make much power after 6200rpm).

I had my Z up to 155 on a long, flat, straight road, about 2 weeks ago. It just wouldn't go any faster, but wasn't at redline. I wasn't surprised as I've read that it was limited to 155 (or so). It didn't cut the engine or anything, just wouldn't let it go any faster.
