A&Q about 350Z
Q:
... on the 2005 G35 Coupe!! Looks like Nissan is about to sell out the Z crowd - high and dry. So the next time you're at a stoplight and think you can outrun the G, better head for the closest carwash as you and your Z are left in the dust.
A:
uhhh, we can still take that thing only becaue it will have 7 more hp. Those things are fatter and heavier than our Z....what are you thinking?

im not one to feed trolls, but specs on the 05 Z have not been let out yet and id expect the Z to be boosted to 300hp...but theres always gonna be something that comes around thats gonna be better and faster its just the way things are. I enjoy driving my car, the fact that one trim of the G coupe, not all of them as your post implies, will have 8 more horsies than my Z will surely not ruin my fun when im whipping through the twisties on the deserted south/central jersey roads(there arent many but there out there). not to mention the extra 8hp probly wont make up for the extra weight of the coupe.
A:
You guys are forgetting that the G35 will have AWD which will help it launch much better than the Z. I'm pretty sure if it does end up having more hp along with the AWD it will more than make up for the extra weight. In the end though it's still not a Z.

The extra horse is to make up for the heavy 19 inch rims. Bigger the rim the more power needed to turn them quicker.

"In the end though it's still not a Z."
You're right. It's a Skyline.
A:
awd is not a heaven sent miracle to horsepower for sure. it actually adds several hundred pounds of weight, and saps additional torque.
i drove an audi s4 for several years... with a stage 1 ecu upgrade. this car can take that car. not off the line, but once your past the point where turbos give much of an advantage, it's the Z. from a handling perspective, i found awd incredibly annoying on grooved pavement and high-crowned roads... things were are not short on where i live.
awd is for unsure drivers in the rain.

no..its not a skyline. Contrary to what nissan now thinks, a SKYLINE is an inline 6 turbo'd supercar..not a car based on another car's setup. It's a Z with different badging. even in japan they know this. That's why you see more people driving R34's over there and FAIRLADY Z's than G35 Skylines.
Also..the AWD will not make up for the weight..it adds even more (a ridiculous amount) and It really only helps in launching. If you are even a decent driver you can launch a Z just as well without the help of friggin AWD.
Also on a side note, if it had the same AWD as Skylines, Altessa- pro, then it really wouldnt help too much at launch because it would start out as RWD and convert torque to the front wheels, which, in most instances for launching take more time than it take to launch. The Altessa is really best for cornering.
And if it doesnt have Altessa...another point to prove its not a damn Skyline.

Come on now. If you don't have your "facts" straight, then don't talk. I'll open up a little lesson just for you
1.) Not all Skylines were supercars
2.) Not all Skylines were turbod
3.) Not all Skylines were inline 6s
Moving along. The G35 (Skyline) came out BEFORE the 350Z (FairladyZ) so how could it possibly be a Z with different badging? Gee, I wonder why I would see more R34s than the G35 (Skylines).. Oh wait I know, BECAUSE IT'S BEEN OUT LONGER and they're also on the USED car market.

The G35X weighs 300lbs more than the regular G35 sedan. As for it being a "driver's launch". If you take the SAME driver and put him in a RWD and a similary equipped AWD car, the AWD car will get the better launch.
"Also on a side note, if it had the same AWD as Skylines, Altessa- pro, then it really wouldnt help too much at launch because it would start out as RWD and convert torque to the front wheels, which, in most instances for launching take more time than it take to launch. First off, it's ATESSA. The G35X uses ATESSA-EST. Takes more time? So are you saying you think faster than the computer? Please...Let's try to at least think straight.
A:
Infiniti vs. Nissan. Luxury line vs. Main line. Who cares? Think about it. It's like saying the Lexus EX300 is faster/better than the Toyota Camry. It's a totally different market/car.
We all knew the 350Z wasn't the fastest car are the market when we bought it. We could have gotten a Corvette. We knew it wasn't the best cornering car on the market. We could have gotten a Ferrari (used).
Why worry about the Skyline, Atessa, etc...For us in the U.S. market that's not really an option. You can get a Corvette and max. out the suspension and engine for less than you can import a Skyline.

my stock '03 - 6MT - Enthusiast will beat just about any 911, any tuner "Z", every WRX or Evo, most dweebs in a Ferrari, and ANY Infiniti driver but.......oh, those 19's....and an Infiniti with a half dozen more horsepower?.....uh oh.
A:
And what if they put the same amount (if not more) of time/money/effort into the racing school? What then?
A:
Let's get something straight for the 2005 Infinitis.
AWD is on the G35 Sedan only.
The G35 sports coupe will still be RWD.

Too bad the G35 isn't a GTR Skyline. So no use in comparing the 2.
