You Guys Are Scaring Me!

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I have been saving for a Track Z for a long time. All this talk about the transmission and unusual tire wear is making me nervous.
Do I need to reconsider a Z car.
I will buy a 2005 model in January of next year.
A:

buy it damnit. lol. did u notice the people that have problems with the car, only a few are like, damn this piece of **** , crap, im takin it back right now, or im sellin this hunk of crap. thats somethin u would do with a mustang or camaro. but these cars r just so great that u would be like, oh well, i wanna get it fixed and just cant wait to drive it again. especially if u goin with a track, get it, u wont be dissapointed.
some people have probs, some dont, i havent had any problems. so u got the go ahead from me man.
A:

?. my350z.com..reapairing section..tire feathering.. 2051 posts???????????
A:

ok, its my biased opinion. lol
A:

Thanks for the comments. I check recalls.gov but didn't see much transmission issues. There were a lot of tire issues on the 2003 model.
I have been waiting for so long, that I'll probably get it no matter what. But it's good to go to the dealer with this information.
I will also chech my350Z.com.

Don't bother. All the problems aside, the performance of the 350Z will quickly become lackluster at best. Toyotas already benchmarking their new Tacoma pick-up truck against the Z in Handling tests. The new Tacoma beats the 350Z on the skid pad. A pick-up truck? The 350Z is also grossly underpowered and can already be beat in straight line speed by all manner of vehicles. American and European muscle equipped V8's with Euro suspension bits via diamler-benz and others are going to be dominating over cars like the 350Z. I never thought I would say this but I am looking seriously at the Dodge Magnum RT, a 340hp hemi powered station wagon with a Benz suspension and transmission, fully equipped, for under 30k. You can stomp all over your favorite 350Z with it in the morning and haul the kids to soccer practice in the afternoon.

what can i say other than there is always something better, always something faster, always something with more more quality, than WHATEVER you have right now.
just bought a computer? it's outdated.
just got a loan? the rates just dropped.
you must like what you buy. if you're asking us whether you should purchase something, i must question the source. why would a bunch of people hanging around a forum have any bearing on your decision.
you've read what you've read. if you're scared... walk away. if you've read anything fair and balanced, then you know the real scoop: all cars have some problems, and some cars have all problems. this holds true for all the lovely offerings on this and other posts for alternatives. pick your poison. just don't pick an audi. within 6 months, my audi had more trips to the dealership than any car on this forum.
see, now does that really make sense (i.e. the audi comment?) nope, just to me. just as none of the other comments here hold any long term water either. it's all bias. nobody is objective. everyone is myopic.
go where your heart takes you, and turn off the brain. have some fun.

Even better oh man with such small ego that he must emphasize that he has not one, but two Z cars, in user id. Still driving it on Nissan's dime.

For the record mweber:
72n03Zs has a 2003 Redline 350Z and a 1972 convertible Corvette.

Had a '72 years ago, though.
Anything else?

I'm touched. Really, I don't know what to say. This is all so sudden ...

I have a pretty good memory. We chatted about your Vette one time probably about six months ago when someone asked you about your name.

"I do not have any problems with any of my Nissans. My Z is an 03, and as mentioned previously, I did have the feathering, only after 15K."
So which is it, did you:
(A) "not have any problems" or did you (B) "have the feathering"?
The two are mutually exclusive.
A:

consistant and costly tire destruction sounds like a problem to me.
i wish we would all get rid of this term "feathering"..that is what Nissan wants to call it...and it makes it sound so kind and fuzzy.
lets call it what it is. tire destruction.

Please consider that due to the popularity of the internet in researching buying decisions, there are biased forces that desire to push you in one direction or another. I have no doubt that there are factory sponsored contributors here both for and against the Z. MWeber comes to mind as one who is against the Z, and with such vitriolic things to say at the drop of the hat, and with very little delay between an initial inquiry and flamed response, he ranks high on the 'something stinks-O-meter'. Keep that in mind. For crissakes. The guy is actually comparing a station wagon with a sportscar.
Why not go out and buy an F-15? Why...that'll flame your lusted after Magnum wagon, AND you can fly.
You buy a Z because it is a gorgeous performance package for the money. You buy it because it turns heads everwhere. You don't buy it because there are other vehicles on the road that are faster than it. If that were the case, we'd all only own the fastest vehicle made,
You buy it because YOU want it. So YOU need to develop the stones necessary to do what YOU want to do. Not meaning harshness, but did the twenty-something posts both pro and con help you?
I dunno about you, but I believe this website is for Z enthusiasts. What are the same long term Z flamers doing here constantly? Human nature isn't to linger at things that are unpleasant, or no longer hold personal interest/ownership. Yet the same negative posters persist. Think. And then go get what you lust for.

i didnt read any of the rest of the posts on this thread but as far as the original post ive had my car for well over a year now vin #189 i have feathering and grease streaks and the "shitty" bose but i love my car anyways and wouldnt trade it in for anything. get the Z you wont regret it.
A:

mweber, i must apologize. my previous posts, to your point, were in trying to explain that one owner's experience indeed does not necessarily represent the larger experience. for that kind of assessment, we would either need actual statistics of satisfaction/dissatisfaction, or some kind of technical analysis that provides a framework for making an educated guess. the premises of six-sigma, which is a quality contol mechanism used by large manufacturing companies (nissan included), allows one to deduce the number of units that don't meet q/c quality. of course, you can set varying levels of q/c compliance, from complete defect, to minor nuisance.
i did not mean to demean you by my comment on your staggering inability to understand that 4 completely defective units per state is probably an acceptable statistic from a manufacturing point of view.
by the way, JD Power ratings are not statistically accurate. never have been. there's a plethora of research showing how their polls are biased. plus, i have not seen any impact on nissan's stock to this point.

or you'll get added to the infamous "They don't like me!" list. Believe me, it's a list you do NOT want to be on.

350ZNewbie,
I am not letting anyone influence me here. I just want to know the facts. I want to go to the dealer with open eyes. I got approved for $38,000 loan yesterday, but I think I'll wait until January. I hope by then everything will be worked out.
I am experienced with first year models at least when it comes to motorcycles. I bought 2000 ZX12R. That was first year bike, and yes it had few recalls. Every issue with the bike was solved.
I do appreciate all the response to the thread.
A:

Good luck my friend.
I really do love my Z, even though the front tires have been changed every other oil change (by Nissan so far).
There are too many other pluses for this car!

I wouldn't mind taking the supercharged Tacoma out for a test drive!
Toyota makes great products! I have owned a few.
