A&Q about 350Z
Q:
agreed on the my350z.com site for F/I.
would be nice if we talked about it more here though... my350z.com is kinda slow most of the time for me.

ajbarbato15,
The problem is the high-compression ratio of the VQ35 that's in the 350z (something like 9:1????.. correct me please). The high-compression is used to cram all NA horsepower out of that engine (which Nissan did). To get reliable, safe, and ultimately high boost pressure, you need a lower compression (which mean opening up the engine and changing internals).
A:
Turbo will give you more power at the same boost than supercharger - esp. good w/ a high compression aluminum engine. The old VQ30's on maxima.org are hitting 350whp (high compression aluminum 190hp engine) on turbos easily.

A:
Usually you can go with dished pistons to lower the compression a bit. For better 0-60 times Id go w/ the supercharger, as its pulley driven off engine power and takes less time to spool up. This is better for most street cars because of drivability. Now, as of 1/4 mile times.....I'd go with the turbo kit. After spool up its worth it. The vortech kit is a bit cheaper and delivers about the same power as the Greddy kit , and includes the intercooler. It just doesnt have quite the tunability as the turbos.

A:
sorry to correct you, but sc's are quicker in 0-60 because they dont need the time to spool up from exhaust gases like turbos. If YOU did your research, you'd know since they are belt driven the power they make coincides to the engines power, where turbos can either spike or lag depending, regardless of the engines actual power. A sc's power curve is more linear, therefore more predictable. Unless you get a very nice ball bearing turbo, you cant come close.
Nevertheless, I still prefer turbos.
A:
reliability is fine for both as long as you dont tune it up all crazy like with a lot of boost. SC's are a little cheaper, like i said, but you trade for lack of tunability...plus that kick ass blowoff sound
A:
im not sure about the greddy tt, but im sure you could find this out at my350z.com im pretty sure there isnt a whole lot of turbo lag because its a twin turbo which means the turbos are smaller bt they spool up much faster than if there were one big one. I dont really think the lag would be that bad. besides i dont know why anyone would be so woried about o-60 times, im sure they are within tenths of a second of eachother and very similar in 1/4 times
A:
agreed on the last part. But, true that since the tt setup uses smaller turbos it takes less time to spool up, the greddy kit is still the old style bearing type, and since its not set up as a sequential type tt, they both spool up at the same time, and still produces a bit of lag.
...but not enough to make me not get the kit!!
A:
Just curious, does anyone here actually have a Greddy TT kit installed...and what happened to your gas mileage - was it much worse?

A:
Im the guy whose getting it installed...nice question, Im not sure, Ill be sure to let you know. Ill run it awhile baseline to see before I start to tune the a/f ratios and crank up the boost.

i had this same question... good info. wonder what ajbarbato15 ended up getting and how dark fusion's tt worked out?
