Transmission failure in 3rd. gear

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Just had a malfunction with my 2003 touring model 350Z. I can't get it into 3rd gear without grinding the **** out of the gear. Clutch depressed to the floor, really definitive shift, no difference, still no go. I happened to be returning from ZDAYZ Rally in NC when this happened. I went the entire way back to Washington DC shifting from 2nd into 4th so as not to totally screwup the tranny. Anybody on this site heard of such a problem with this transmission? The rest of the gears all seem to be working fine. No noise or running problems otherwise as long as I stay away from 3rd gear. Please help me out with your feedback here before I take this problem back to the dealership.

i haven't experienced it myself i have an 04 track.there is a tranny problem with some of the 03's.they grind in certain gears and i think it's 3rd gear for the most part.take it to the dealer and have them replace it.if you do a search you will see quite a few people who have had this problem.good luck with that.

Take it to the dealer as it should be covered under warranty as the other post states there are problems wiht the 03 transmissions.

Every now and then 3rd gear grinds when I shift really quickly even with the clutch all the way in...
A:

Go to dealer and get it replaced. I did. No problems ever since.

Knightkrawler31-
I have the same exact problem. It seems to grind when I go into 3rd gear sometimes. I have only been having this problem for about a month now, but it's annoying as hell. I have been shying away from taking in my car again, but I just made an appointment to take the car in to Falore Nissan (not the best but definately the closest for me) to address the following:
1) Feathering tires: Already got them 'rotated' but they're basically bald on all sides and at 19K miles, they need replacing. (TSB #?)
2) Window streaks: Never got this addressed before. (TSB #?)
3) Inside rear-view mirror rattles (TSB #?)
4) Driver's seat fraying (TSB #?)
5) Transmission grinds in 3rd gear (TSB #?)
I know this looks like a huge list of 'bad' things to some, but I love my Z!
Quick questions for you guys...do you know what the official TSB numbers are for each of the things I have listed so I can basically hand it to the guys at the dealership so that they can't give my any bullsh*t about any of it? Thanks!

I have all of those problems ......But have been blinded by the love of the damn car....I've considered trading in several times but nothing keeps my attention like the Z except the G35 coupe and I'm trying to buy a house soon so I don't want bigger payments......ok my mirror doesn't rattle but the rest of those problems I have too ....damn....

LOL...yeah I hear you. I don't really consider them too much of problems since I have gotten 19K miles out of them. The other things I can live with and have so I haven't taken it in. Now that I have a second car (just bought a 1971 Datsun 510 to re-live my high school years!) that I can drive while I have the Z at the dealer I now have time to do that.
I love my Z and am enjoying every second of ownership.
Anybody know the TSB numbers? Thanks.

My first tranny went out at 10,000 miles (3rd. gear)
My second tranny went out at 20,000 miles (3rd gear)
Now I'm on my third tranny with 34,000 miles and am wondering if I got one with steel synchros rather than the brass ones that seem to give out.
If it gives out let it be soon before my warranty is up!

I am finding this exact problem decelerating in 3rd and 2nd gears but it is sporadic. I have had the dealer look at it and they say they can't hear/feel it. 10,000 miles to go before the end of warranty. Any particular situations you can think of that cause it?
A:

floor it in 2nd and then shift to 3rd real quick (with the clutch depressed all the way)
