I read an article on wheelwax (http://www.wheelwax.com/) which said it is great for removing tough spots, and also for polishing and protecting. I would try this out before using other products that may damage your rims finish. It is a little expensive, but even if it does not remove the spots you have, it will definitely protect the rim from future occurences and make brake dust easier to remove.

What about getting some diff. pads? I put Hawks on mine and can tell a tremendous difference with front dust. Maybe a longer time plan you might need.

i used simple green and a soft scrub pad! worked great and i am anal about my rims! i have the 18 inch track wheels that you can easlly see into!

Supertrack, thanks! I'll give that a try first. I've got some Simple Green at home. I'll let is soak in for a few minutes before I apply any rubbing pressure.
