A&Q about 350Z
Q:
OK, I have an '03 Touring / automatic... the car is going in for the first time to the dealer, mainly for the feathering TSB. (Interesting note; Service Mgr asked if I had 17 or 18 inch wheels. I have 17 and he was very suprised by that! But, while it's there, I want them to swap the Blows Stereo Head unit too. The Mgr asked me to wait til Thursday to tell him about any other problems.
Other noticable items....
1. When I take off, with the TCS on, sometimes it seems like the car abruptly surges out of 1st gear too quickly - or slips out - (I have an automatic). Almost feels like the differential has momentarily slipped.... Is this normal?
2. The engine wants to cut out sometimes prematurely while accelerating hard; in other words, not within the confines of the ECU instructions. Hmmmmmmmm.
3. I started the car the other day and a pretty good puff of white smoke came out of the exhaust and lingered around for awhile. I have never mistreated the motor....
4. Are there any other things that I should get looked at while it's there? You know, sort of like a preemptive strike...... Thanks in advance all!

turning off the tcs will sometime makes the car feel like it is slipping out, because it is, the surge of power is normal when tcs is off - especially in first gear when you stomp it from a dead stop the gears are still engaging in the dreaded auto-tranny delay- the reason why people choose manual trannys. as far as premature cutting out, also pretty normal in a very conservatively geared automatic tranny like in the z, it chooses reliabilty over performance. PUff of white smoke - no idea.

giZmo...
The puff of white smoke is water vapor. Likely condensation..

blue smoke = BAD

lets hope its only condensation though...if not, it could be moisture seeping into the cylinders via a leaky gasket...which could mean BIG trouble. st first it would be ok...the heat usually will get rid of most of the moisture, but if it continues, you could blow the head

Yup, I knew it! The dealership calls me at 10min to 5pm and says that they are having trouble aligning it. GREAT! Manager says "Oh but the good news is we ordered the new tires for your car without us having to do the front tire swap". "So you don't have to drive on the other edge 'till they shread again." OK, great! (I told them that I don't drive it in the winter and I'll get screwed on the TSB time constraint if they don't get me new tires now), (And I'll be Back!)). Oh, and they ordered the Blows replacement amp. Boy, what fun! Wish me luck! giZmo
