Sure, it sounds good. How do you know if two guys in corvettes aren't just both accelerating away from the stop light faster than the rest of the traffic? Racing? Up to the cop. Too difficult to enforce.
What the law SHOULD be is documented racing over speeds of, say 35mph over the speed limit, or a flat 100mph on all roads, is jailable.
One of the safest and most cautious driver's I know got SCREWED and almost had his automovite hobbies ruined. He was riding a friend's motorcycle on an empty semi-residential street alongside his friend on 'his' bike. The guy accidently took off a little too fast from the stop sign, didn't peel out or wheelie or anything, and a local cop hiding to give stop sign tickets cited him for wreckless driving and racing. Took 3 long years before it was straightened out.
Bottom line, Eazy E and Ice Cube said it best... F#CK THE POLICE [straight from the underground].
Don't be fooled, POLICE ARE THERE TO TAKE YOUR MONEY, #1 PRIORITY, whether he's a good cop OR bad cop.

If you are dumb enough to be racing in an area that cops can easily hide and catch you in, you are probably driving wreckless in a populated area where innocent people may get involved.

a law like this is just going to cause every single street racer to run from the cops now even more, possibly causing accidents. when i was 16 we would pull over take the $50 ticket and be on our way, now i can tell you if that was the law around here none of would pull over and go for the ditch as you got nothing to lose trying it with a law like that.
damn cops and law makers should be more dedicated and serious about drunk drivers who do a helluva lot more damage than street racers.
street racing has been going on since cars have been around and the cops aint ever gonna stop it or slow it down, maybe some day they will realize this and pursue real criminals.
me street race? hell yea for the last 32 years every damn weekend.
