Is this a common problem with 350z's? I've test driven one that had problem going into third gear with pretty low mileage. Also the gearbox seems kind of stiff.

Yes, if the transmission has been abused it will have difficulties in some gears. If it is hard to shift they could have put transmission fluid in it that was too thick. Also, the clutch could be going out.

What would be the ballpark price of fixing a synco problem?

I test drove a '03 one and I believe that the warranty has expired on that car already. Anyone know around how much it cost to repair the synco problem?

I have an 03 I just brought it into the dealer and it is still under warranty. They usually do not fix the synros they replace the tranny. Call the dealer.
