A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Guys: Wonder if you can give me some advice on a Z32 paint related question, was told this was a good forum for painting advice...
This is about restoring my White side vu mirrors, they are in pretty good shape, no cracks, scratches, etc. The only problem is they just have a flat dull finish. The rest of the car's finish is great -- nice and shiny.
So -- what's recommended? I was thinking of degreasing them real well and applying a few coats of clear coat? Wet sanding (400-600 grit or so) between coats.
Any downside to doing this or better ways to go? Thx!

exactly what i would reccomend. Helped a friend restore his 69 mustang to a pearl white, and the mirrors had a very dull color to them and three coats of clear coat and many hours of wet sanding later they looked fantastic.

i would use something less then 400-600...maybe 1000-1500. 400-600 will leave some good grooves...1000 will still leave them...i would finish with a 2000.

rubbing compound won't do much. Tried it with some Megiuars fine glaze and it just cleaned up the some of the weathering.
I think I'll go the clear coat route - but use the finer (1000-2000) grit paper to finish.
Thx again for the advice, appreciate it!!!
