rattling in dash on rightside

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

when i first got the car there was no rattling but lately it seems like a small plastic piece is rattling up in the right corner of the dash board and i can't tell exactly where its coming from because of the echo against the window. does anyone have an idea what this is?

rear view mirror maybe, i had a rattle coming from here and just pressed everyhting around it to make sure it was firm and it went away... cupholder in the dash? A pillar?
A:

it was definitly coming from the rightside on or in the dash. it wasn't the rearview mirror.

I believe there is a TSB for the dashboard rattle. But the dealer couldn't perform it on my Z because it needs to 'rattle' during his test so he can say for sure that it was corrected. Mine only rattled on cold mornings when I rolled out of my smooth driveway, but was always gone by the time I would get to the dealer. I noticed that it seemed to get worse as my tire feathering got worse. And sure enough, when I put new tires on last month the rattle disappeared.
I highly recommend NOT replacing your tires with the Bridgestones! The Federals that I put on (just the front) has turned the Z into a completely different (much smoother and better riding) car.
I think Nissan should take a second look at what they chose for their factory tires. As the old saying goes: "You never get a second chance to make a good first impression". And tragically, this one seemingly small front end alignment problem, along with a poor tire selection that spiraled out to thousands of cars, just might be the main source of Nissan's big drop in the latest quality poles.
I still think these cars Rock! For the money nothing come close in hot looks, handling and performance. Good luck!

Had the same problem on my Z, it's from the passenger's side air bag
area, the tech installed foam pieces and tie bolts. The tech test drove
the car a couple of times to make sure there were no more rattles.
All was covered under warr.

for me the rattling happens usually on rough asphalt on this country road and doesn't happen on the highway or other surfaces. but still for a 30thou dollar car there shouldn' t be any rattles

Had a rattle/buzz and traced it there.
This car is funny that way: sounds are hard to trace. Had one this weekend that sounded like the top of the dash around the nav opening (I don't have nav, tho.) Turns out the shifter boot was creaking against itself when cruising in 6th.
Go figure.
Good luck.

I notice I have the rattle only when the cup holder is out.

Turn up your tunes...and forget about it.

My rattling is on the left side upper dash . Tapped the piece of plastic and it goes away.
P.S. The 30k is in the engine and drivetrain NOT the dash!
P.S.S. The rearview mirror has 2 ball joints. You can set it up to not "buzz"
