A&Q about 350Z
Q:
While prepping Saturday for a little getaway weekend road trip with the wife, was checking the Z's oil level. The dip stick was more ornery than usual while trying to get it back in. I took a close look and the rubber section at the base of the handle where it seats with the opening in the block was split. I broke off the split parts and still had enough left to seat securely - luckily!!
You might want to check yours. I can't imagine chunks of rubber would be overly beneficial as an oil additive. They'd probably end up in the filter quickly enough, but who needs the worry?

If the chunks of rubber made it into the oil pump they would lock it up or plug and restrict a passage as the pump only filters the oil through the pickup screen prior to forcing it through the oil filter. Remember, that you cannot filter on the suction side of a pump so the only protection is the pickup screen. I had an umbrella valve seal particle lock up the oil pump on a car that I had and it was a joy to change the oil pump due to it making its way through the pickup screen.
