A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Had an encouter w/ the Dodge Viper yesterday on my home Hwy 4 going to Antioch. I was just in a hurry to get home, I passed him going around 87mph I noticed he slowly changed lane to my lane. And when traffic cleared he moved the the right lane. I was tracking his move he slowly got next to me and when we went exactly(95mph even I just knew that he's gonna gun it. I down shifted to 4th from 6th. He had 1 car lead, a car was in front of him so he switched to my lane. If i didn't slow down he could hit me. I left him because the Z is very small unlike the Viper long and wide. I slashed my way thru cars and then I decided to slow down.
Its was fun being in a race w/ the Viper. I wonder if my Z was equiped w/ a supercharger would I stand a chance?? What do you guys think? By the way what would you guy say is the BEST supercharger out there?

You aren't going to run with a viper without internals and some serious forced induction. Just race him to 100k miles, you'll win that race.

if you want to run with a viper then you will need to... buy a viper. or a ferrari, lamborghini. buy a supercharger for your z and then you can run with... lightly modded stis and evos.

I would hope it is no 350Z owners goal to run with sti's and evo's gimme a break, theyre totally different cars. its quite fun though toying with cars that will you know will whoop your a$$. its cool just to see what they can do. I was messing around with a 911 turbo a few weeks ago and geez, i wasnt even fast enough to try and mess with him. the handling on that car was ridiculous.

yeah it's fun to see what supercars can do, but this guy was talking about how he could "stand a chance" with a viper. but you're right most z owners don't care about competing with stis and evos (rolls eyes).

On highway or regular streets where many cars are arounds, I prefer to race viper than evo. I did with corvette (might not be z6) , but both of us were up and down , and finally no body know who was faster. (although at the end I managed to get in front of him (from the other lane). I tried the same scenario with evo about months ago, and right from the beginning, I couldn't see where the evo had gone.

I honestly dont think many do...maybe the boy racer 350Z types, but if I wanted a quarter mile car that looked like an angry kitchen appliance I wouldve gotten one. Theres no reason why pretty much any Z owner couldnt have gotten either one of those cars, they are in the same price range. I respect them for what they are( i was at the atco meet the other day and there was a white evo there and i couldnt wait to see it run down the track) but thats about it. if im supercharging or tt-ing my Z im aiming to beat up on M3's, stock vettes, modded s2k's, porsches, 300zx tt's, etc etc.

so you held your own with a corvette--possibly z06--and dusted the evo. sorry to break this to you, but those drivers were not racing you. by the way, i never said anyone should care whether they can beat sti/evo/<insert car model> all i did was present an example.

anywho... about the dusting the evo thing, I think you were reading him wrong...i think he was saying the evo was too fast for him, not the other way around. Also street "racing" at 65 is much different than off the line. the evos and sti's are fast but you'd also have to check out times for like 60-80 or 80-120, something like that before you start throwing around stuff like " sorry to break this to you, but those drivers were not racing you". im sure they may be faster up there too, but im just saying off the line speed is much different. the vette is a different story, you would most likely get beat by a stock vette just about anywhere at any speed, and a ZO6 wouldn't even be a sporting challenge.

the way you guys talk, makes me feel like i'm a loser with a brand new 04 350z. With 287hp i expected to at least "hang around" with cars aboved mentioned. My 00.2 cents.

don't compare a Z to the Viper or Corvette. Compare the latter 2 to each other. Viper would smoke the Vette though!!

in this context "loser" is an appropriate term because that's what you would be if you tried to race those above mentioned cars.

You can't even compare them. The price range is no where near equal.
One averages 30k and one .. 80ish? ..... A difference of 50 to 55k. So who cares if you get spanked. Toss 50k into a 350 then compare them.
Or buy another Z and use the money you still have left to mod one of them...
