Hard Top Roadster..350Z

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I would love to have bought a Roadster in the 350Z...but did not like the soft top. I think it wrecks the lines of the Z. Why wouldn't Nissan consider make the Z with a hard top that is retractable as in the Lexus SC 430?? I would definetly buy one....regardless of the cost. Would this be a possible re-design for 2008 or 2009 model? I would trade my 2006 350Z if this ever came as an option, for the Roadster. Pete
A:

ahh...I don't know. The retractable hard top adds weight to an already hefty car. Also, it adds to the cost of building the car, which is passed through to the consumer, which betray's the identity of the Z as the "poor man's porsche".
I can see it maybe happening, but my money is on the big fat N-O!

i would say a definite no...they wont do it. like Zmee said it'll just add weight and cost to a car that cant really afford to take a hit like that as well as killing cargo space. also even if they could make one it would have to have the same lines as the current roadster. I dont think theres a way to keep the coupes lines even with a hardtop. Not to mention alot of the hardtop verts arent 2 seat sports cars, theyre more for the touring class(yea i know the SLK has one ). Until porsche starts putting hardtops on their verts nissan doesnt need to worry about their softops.

Cost! And weight. You will see a t-top, sunroof or even a targa top before you see a retractable hard top in the Z.
I wish the 350Z had a t-top like the Z32 did or a targa top like the vette. I have seen several 350Zs with after market sunroofs which look nice.

it's possible... but you gotta find a body shop guy that for one has the balls to take on this project, and then knows what he is doing...
i found a guy that knew what he was doing but had no cajones... so i'm still looking...
that is a really good PS though... either they had the windows rolled down or they are just really good at PS because there is visibly no disruption of the background image... very good indeed

Completely agree...several people suggested that I should buy the Convertible (all they see is when the top is down) and I flat out refused to buy that since the car just doesn't look as nice as the hardtop. Anyway that PS car looks fantastic...

I'm loving the photoshopped car.
Anyway, a retractable hardtop would add so much weight. I think Nissan learned their lesson with the Z32 dying due to costing too much. The Z will remain a bare-bones sports car. Maybe you'll get lucky with the GTR, though.

Hey there -
I just talked to JMS out of Jersey and they are taking deposits for 350z targa top conversions.
http://www.jmsproductsinc.com/
I talked to the guy that runs the place this morning. They need 13 more deposits in order to start the conversions. I'm giving this guy a deposit.
He handles mustang conversions and does them great.
