Nissan quality..JD power...

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

For some reason you can't post any more comments on the subject on first forum about nissan quality slipping... I red everyone's comment and I'm sorry I personally don't give SH*T about what JD power says. I WILL buy another nissan product again tommorow or next week or next time I'm in the market for a new car. I have no problem with my z or any other nissan I've owned in the past 17 years. for those of you that are dissapointed I recomend to maybe try something else instead of complaining.

the latest J.D. Powers report but I would bet the difference between first place and last is very small. I will tell all that the quality of a Nissan is far superior then most other manufacturers, hands down. Launching as many new products as Nissan has hasnt helped, on top of that many of the products are coming from a brand new plant with inexperienced workers ect. Nissan will correct this problem. The problem is that Mr. Powers has made a fortune convincing the public that there are huge problems with many industries, especially the automotive industries. When in fact if you look at any credible statistical source it will show by far most consumers are very pleased with car buying experience. Oh well, I will still put Nissan up against any american product or korean product for that matter, any day of the week.
One other issue with MR. Powers report. They dont differentiate the severity of the problems with the vehicles. So, esentially your Nissans tire balance issue would rank the same as a Chrysler getting it trans replaced and the vehicle being undriveable for a week ect. The issue I see with Nissan are not severe and usually center around vibrations, wind noise or the darn check engine light for a loose gas cap. All shouldnt happen, but they are by far not severe and rarely cause the vehicle to be undrivable.
A:

Actually...you will lose your bet. The difference is significant. The leading manufacturer according to the report has about 1/2 of the reported quality issues of the vehicles that are rated last in the survey. (Remember, Nissan rated close to the bottom). Thats a huge difference.
Your opinion is respected. However, we will have to ask some of the hundreds of 350z owners that already have their car up for sale on Autotrader if they feel the same way, as facts (as reported by consumer surveys via JD Power) are clearly showing a different opinion than yours.
We won't leap to conclusions as to the reason for this (as it could be for a lot of reasons) but it is an important point to remember these quality rankings are by the owner's themselves, and it speaks volumes that Kia owners consider their vehicles to have higher initial quality than Nissan owners have reported.

People buy them for the wrong reasons and figure out they're too snug, too hard to get into, too bumpy, too small, too a whole lot of things.
You've taken an unsubstantiated quantum leap to say these Zs are for sale because of you're tire feathering issue.
A:

So you are saying that all these people have their car up for sale because the Nssan Z is a lemon? I doubted. I see more BMWs in the auto trader than anything else, what's your point? I don't really care that Nissan scored low on JD Powers and the number I read in the artcle was 12 more quaity issues than last year, uuuhhh talk about a huge gap there.
Nissan is just taking more chances than any other manufacturer with new designs and what not. I say NIssan will only get better and it's just a matter before it ranks in the top 5. On the other hand, after a year and a half, I still drive my 350Z to work with a huge smile on my face.
RELAX.

There are also a ton more BMW's on the road. Everyone has one for status round here. I can't throw a stone without hitting one. There are an awful lot of Z's with very low mileage for sale at Carmax, and Auto trader. If it smells like fish it must be fish. It does make one wonder.
A:

2200 Miles and I'm not selling mine..
Did I tell you all how much I love my Z ?????
If I do end up with the tire problem, I will worry then..
The **** ASS Grin I wear to work when I drive the Z is so worth it.........

and I should wait till I do but, here it goes. If the worst rating is 146 and the best is 80 then the difference is 1.46 problems per 100 cars or .8 problems per 100 cars. And again I will point out that the severity of the complaints are not measured. Surely, if 100 out of 100 cars had a minor vibration issue or 100 out of 100 had transmission issues, or differential issues like all dodge dakotas ect. would you rate the quality the same? Of course not but thats the problem with these surveys they dont give all the info, just like politics. In the end perhaps the proof is in the lemon law buy back lane at the factory sponsored aucitons. I am there often and will tell you that you dont see dozens of buy backs at Nissan auctions like you do at the domestics. Of course the domestics sell more but still the number is disproportional. Also, the few Z owners that you base your opinion on is a far cry from the hundreds of thousands of Nissans sold each year. Plus even though I have fought as hard and screamed as loud about the Z issues as anyone here, the problem is still minor compaired to many other manufacturers. The problem comes down to this, Nissan offered a great sports car for the money that many could afford. But in the end they couldnt do it for the price and still build it like a $45,000 Z in 1996. Also, if I recall from the many Z32's I owned, front end problems were inherent on most of those cars too, the difference was that we didnt have a forum like the internet to share all our experiences, creating a warped view that a problem is larger than it is, not that the tire issue is not widespread. I also recall Stillen offering adjustable upper A arms for the Z32 that gave an additional 3 degrees of adjustment to correct this problem. So, in the end, I see why people are trading there Kias and Hyundais and Fords and CHevys and I know the truth. Is Nissan perfect, no way, are they putting cutting edge designs in to the market at competetive prices, yes. The issue is that everyone wants something for nothing, if we want cheaper prices then something has got to give. In this case quality has gave, a little. BUt you end up with a car with personality, that turns heads like a $100,000 car or you could just go buy a Kia, just what I want to pull up in.

buying Fords a long time ago.

"Consumers Digest" used to charge $25k for their "Best Buy"....I'm certain it's a helluva lot more now. I'm not sure what "J.D. Power" has goin' on but, their rankings are almost upside down with "Consumer Reports", and as one who's always followed "Consumer Reports", and always worked on my own cars, I'm stickin' with them. I know more than enough people with their GM products, to know that any outfit that rates those pieces of **** as highly as "J.D. Power" does, has a "glitch" in their system.
A:

consumer reports seems to be the most reliable for..uh..reliability ratings, but we'll see what their statistics say about nissan at the end of this year.
