Right on Nissan's website for the 350Z it says:
"Leather-wrapped shift knob"
They better correct that statement if it is in fact vinyl.
The shift boot does seem to be vinyl though.

Shift knob down to the area that covers it. It looks and feel like vinly.

I put Lexol leather conditioner on that part, does not seem to harm it. Nissan claims the shift knob to be covered in leather ... but it does feel like vinyl though.

most leather products are fine on vinyl, although the reverse is not always true, but you can feel safe using 99 percent of leather CONDITIONING products on vinyl, some cleaners would harm vinyl.
