A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Does anybody have a musty smell from their a/c when they use it. I was wondering if it's just me or what. Any solutions for this problem. Car is only 5 months old. Any help on this matter would be great.
A:
The musty smell is usually due to mold growing on the evaporator coils or the housing around the evaporator. This is usually caused by excessive moisture that is not draining.
Check for a clogged condensate line, if clogged it will cause this problem.
A:
That musty smell is probably something you smell when you are just turning on the a/c or defrost , If it goes away after a few seconds I would consider it normal. If not , check your evaporator drain for pine needles or something.
A:
I've had the same smell, and was wondering if others had also noticed this.
A:
Parts stores like NAPA sell a evaporator cleaning kit that you inject into the housing and it foams out the mold and stench. It is under fifty a kit and lasts a season. I have seen mechanics use Lysol spray and then flush the case with water to get rid of the Lysol smell. I prefer the foam treatment as it reminds me of foaming bleach and when it runs out the evaporator drain the smell is gone and there is no after smell of chemicals.
A:
so did mine. just about a minute before the smell dissipated.
A:
I always use the fresh air mode, not the air recirculation mode on the air intake button... no problems with mine.
