I have found that if you keep the gas cap tether under the tabs after fueling , your gas door will stay aligned.

Body panel "fit and finish" often varies from one car to the next on any vehicle. Mercedes Benz vehicles are as inconsistent as Ford Mustangs. The only cars I've seen that (usually) fit consistently well are higher-end Lexus products (GS-series and up) and Infiniti I30/I35s and Q45s.
