A&Q about 350Z
Q:
My other car is an 03' Jeep Gr. Cherokee and I need to change the pads in the front soon. Was hoping someone could recommend a brand and/or a place to get them.
I don't want to take it to Mineke and get whatever they want to slap on there...
Thx!

www.tirerack.com This is where I got my Hawk pads for the Z. Recieved in 3 days drew
A:
BTW just looked up your pads. You can either go with an OEM pad 36 bucks for front, however it is a compound pad (brake dust galore). Or the other choice was some ceramic pad 72 for axel set. Hope this helps....drew
Also helped change pads on 01 grand last summer. Its defenitly a do it yourself job.....dont waste the money..takes maybe 2 hours for whole car
A:
yeah, I'm looking at the site now... the ceramics for $72 seem to be a good deal.
I'm thinking I will do the job myself. After reading up on the pad install for the Z, it doesn't seem that complicated.
remove caliper, remove pad, clamp in piston to insert new pad, replace caliper .. thats pretty much it, no?
thanks for the suggestion and the added research!

just remember when clamping in the piston you might need to open the bleeder cap. Its the nut with the rubber mount on top of it on the caliper. Simply turn with ( a 9mm) I think only like half a turn. Brake fluid will ooze while you clamp your piston in. Maybe a full 8-10 cc in all (not much at all but the piston went in much easier) . By the way if your a member on www.my350z.com heres a full write up. Simply print it off and take it to the garage with ya'

thanks for the heads up...
my last Jeep (2000 Gr. Cherokee Laredo) had to have its rotors replaced after 50K. I later found out that this particular Jeep had horrible factory brakes.
I found a good article on the complete procedure for pad and rotor replacement:
http://www.nagca.com/grandtech/stillenzjbrakeupgrade.htm
I'm thinking I might replace the rotors as well while I'm at it.

bam-9, have you changes the pads on the 350Z? I have the 17" wheels and I want to replace them with the Green Stuff type advertised for the 350Z. How hard is it to change the pads? Is there anywhere I can go to get step by step instructions? Thanks.
A:
I would think twice about the greenstuff brake pads. I have heard from other forum members that they tend to squeak and yell at low speed braking. I would recommend the Hawk pads found on www.tirerack.com. I have seen very little dust even after driving for a full 1.5 weeks. The total time for changing took approx 45 minutes (if that). Go become a member to www.my350z.com (its free) so you can see this in depth article on how to change your pads. Change is honestly a breeze, and I will never pay someone 60-100 dollars to mess with my pads again. Heres the link below...

Thanks guys, I will go for the Hawk pads and go to the website for instructions.

Your note is quite timely. I just ordered new pads (Satisfied Pro Ceramics) for the front of my '97 Jeep Cherokee Sport along with PowerSlot slotted rotors this past Monday from tirerack too and got them on Tuesday. I installed them Tuesday night. Man what a difference in stopping. Follow the instructions on break in.
Once you get the calipers off the rotors just pull right off. Make sure you buy some grease especially formulated for brake parts. You will need to lubricate where the pads slide on the caliper mount. Also before you pull off the calipers, scrub them with soap and water to get the brake dust off. Don't use any compressed air since the dust is harmful.
