Possible or a Dream - Gas Efficiency

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Hey,
I was just wondering what is the normal MPG you guys are averaging. I am averaging about 16 and wanted to know if this common or if I need to look for engine issues. I know it's a sports car and most eat gas like their at a buffett but is there anyway to increase the MPG ? Any advice or opinions appreciated.

all depends on how you drive, if your running the engine real hard 16 is about what youll get. On the highway you should be getting closer to the mid 20's. i average around 19-20.

Actually I've been getting about 16mpg on city and haven't been on the highway in a while (well I've been on it but for 4 to 5 miles at a time). I was trying to get an average because I wanted to see if my AEM intake made any difference. Any other suggestions ?

I average 28/29 mpg when traveling on the highway (from San Jose to Santa Maria about 230+ miles mostly all flat) and about 20mpg around town...but my average is 25mpg. But to make you feel better, when I get on it all the time I have gotten 16mpg.

good stuff there, especially the part that says wide open throttle + quick shifts gives the best mileage.
so you can have fun and stuff maximize your economy at the same time.

I have 74K miles on my Z, and my mpg average for that whole time is 23.5mpg.
Believe only what you think, not what you feel.

Stock, except for K&N air filter, my car has been getting arond 24 MPG in mostly city driving and about 28 MPG in mostly highway, but now that I added a new plenum spacer and NISMO intake, my MPG has gained about 2 MPG. I haven't gone on a long road trip yet, but my CPU has indicated over 30 MPG on the highway.
We'll see what kind of numbers I calculate at my next fill up.

I get about 20 in city and 25 on hwy. I do about 80 on the hwy and it seems to get good mileage.

2nd Talon...
although i have slowed down to 70-75 on freeways now and around 40-50 city depending on limits...
i have gotten down to 6 MPG idling once... i watched it go from 20 to 12 when i first stopped.... i waited and it slowly lowered... i sat there for about 10 minutes watching it... lol i was amazed...

I get on it every now and then, but I normally drive as efficiently as I can.
On the interstates, I seldom go over 75 MPH. My car gets the best MPG when I'm driving between 65 - 75 MPH.
I get a chuckle seeing all these SUVs zipping by me at 80 - 90 MPH and these people complain about the crappy gas mileage they get and having to pay $100+ to fillup their tanks.
Well, maybe if they would slow it down a bit, they would get better MPG. Yes, they would still have to pay $100+ to fillup, but wouldn't it be better to fill up once a week instead of 2 or 3 times a week?
No common sense.

Yep! I know the feeling. Its hard to break a habit.
It took me a long time to get off the urge, but after my last speeding ticket (out of how many I can't count anymore), and the rise in gas prices, I've finally come to the realization that I should slow it down (and stop giving free money to the Gov't) and save $$$ at the pump.

i don't really speed at all. i haven't had a ticket in years and years. i just like to take off. easing onto the gas and slowly getting up to speed just doesn't do it for me.

AAAH! I see what you mean!!
I do that every now and then too.
I love to hear my engine, with the new NISMO intake, growl when I give it the gas. Its sounds awesome along with my NISMO exhaust.

I get 21. something mpg. Mix of city and highway. Mix of cruising and getting on it hard up to cruising speeds. Drag race some at the track. I am all over the radar screen. My 350Z is like a Swiss army knife, ha, used for anything and everything. After 2 plus years though, I still love her just as much as at first. She takes care of me and I take care of her.
