$6 Dollars Mod

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

For a few moths I tried to purchase a new front grille for my 350z. They cost between 100-300 plus installation. I started doing some research on this forum and found something that drivenZ wrote.
"for front grille get chrome door edge guard from an auto parts store. cut it to length for the 3 bars that go across the front grille and put them on. I got mine for 10-12 bucks and put it on like over 10 months ago and use my Z as my daily driver and they still look great. here check it out on my car, its such a cheap mod and looks so good. It even looks good up close. everyone always thinks its stock."
I was kind of skeptic but decided to go to an auto parts store. I found this chrome silver door edge molding that could cover the whole front grille for $6 dollars. Let me tell you all that this is the best Bang for the Buck ever. And it looks awesome!!! Thank you so much drivenZ.
Here are some pictures, enjoy...

Damn, that does look good. Simple and good.

The first picture is the one without the mod. Just so you can see the before and after.

That is nice, I wonder if I could get it locally and if it would look as good on a black model.

Your new grill looks like a hundred bucks!
What seats do you have in your car? Are they leather? I like the look a lot!

Check out this other link. There you will find some pictures of my car and yes it is leather (trim soft--something like that). They cost around $800 installed. You'll see them on this link:

No problem 350-ZPoWeR...it looks great by the way. I also have a CS. Did you use the Zip ties that I explained in another post on that thread? I posted my explanation of how to do it over at my350z.com recently and a few guys over there did it as well and they really liked how it turned out too.
A:

Yes drivenZ, I followed your explanation and used the Zip ties for the ends. I don't know how you came up with this whole idea but it is so worth it. I saved myself around $200... thanks again.
A:

What did you do with the zip ties?
thanks in advance
looks great by the way
A:

oh no, i didnt come up with the original idea( i did do it a while ago but i saw someone else on a forum who did it), but i dont think anyone used the zip ties like i did. no one else was going all the way to the ends though, so maybe i get credit for the zip tie idea, i came up with that myself. enjoy
2thdr... many people when i originally saw this idea were using the strips but werent going all the way to the edges of the grill bars, because they curve in at the very edge and the chrome edge guard isnt flexible enough to stay stuck on a tight curve like that.(if you look at your grill youll see waht i mean, the lines arent perfectly straight all the way across) so i used black zip ties on each corner(6 in all) to hold the edge guard tight onto the grill bars ALL THE WAY ACROSS. they arent visible in the pictures though.

Thanks for the link to your pictures. I also like your G35C wheels.

That looks pretty good man. Kind of gives the front end more depth instead of looking like a black hole in the front.

Best grill mod I have seen yet and far less expensive! A quick question.... how are you using the zip ties at the corners....are you going around the crome stirps and bars? Sorry if the is a stupid...it's hard to tell in the pics and I didn't see now they wouldn't be visible after looking at my grill. PICS are awesome!
A:

No its not stupid, cause you cant really see it in the pics. but yes the zip ties go around the chrome strip and the black plastic bars on the grill at the far left and right edges of each bar. theres 3 bars so youll need 6 zip ties. technicaly if you squat down and look from like 1ft away at each end you will be able to see them but since the grille bars curve in at the ends its very difficult to see them tucked in there like that(no one ever notice it unless they were looking for them specifically). So basically at the left and right tips of each chrome strip there is a zip tie holding it to the black plastic bar. the strips arent flexible enough and wont stick well enough with out the zip tie to that sharp curve at the end of each grill bar.

Awesome.....thanx DrivenZ....on my way to the store now....great mod!!!!
