A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I am looking to add some power to the 350. I want to know what people have heard, in terms of the positives and negatives, about:
1. Cold air intake and what brands
2. True dual exhaust and what brands
3. Less restrictive mufflers
4. Any performance chip out there
I have about 500 to spend right now and I'd like to know where I should spend it, where I'll see the most benifit-Thanks guys-Znis NV
A:
1. JWT/Injun
2. Many kinds, all over 500.00 though
3. Part of cat back, no need to purchase seperately
4. Nope
Save for catback such as borla, or just buy the intake now, it's a couple hundred bucks I believe.

A:
buy the twin turbo kit that on the back of turbo magazine this month
then you will start to enjoy excessive power, as long as you turn up the
boost a little.

A:
As I see it.
1. The K&N Typhoon at a 10 HP boost is around $239. very good design.
goes thrugh the front radiator bulkhead and down behind the open
part of the grill.
2. The Borla at around $460 true dual.
3. See #2 above.
4. Technos Sq. has a complete ECU reflash at $ 599.
it raises the red line to 7100 and takes off the top end limiter
and recalculates air fuel mix at higher RPM.
Good luck, but start saving your $ / 500. won't go far........
A:
1. Nismo r tune...definately worth the money
2.Apex'i N1--excellent power gains
3. comes with exhaust
4.I'd go with possibly a piggy back ECU...I think GReddy makes one for the 350...these are better than just a chip cause they work with your factory ECU and usually can be reprogrammed to multiple fuel curves and are switchable between them....unfortunately they are expensive...the Apex'i S-AFC is about 300-400 dollars and has lots of options...very nice to start off with.
A:
Technosquare in Los Angeles offers a reprogram of the ECU but unless you take the car to them you have to reprogram the throttle pedal so it appears to be a pain in the butt.
A:
why dont you guys recommend cams in you list of upgrades? Doesnt Nismo offer high performance cams that add some power. I could have sworn they did
A:
This guys budget is 500, cams are like 1200-1300. you cant buy much performance for the Z with $500. my suggestion:
JWT popcharger with either a crawford plenum or high flow cats, that combo may run a tad over 500, but its a pretty good value for your price range.
A:
true, true...The nismo cams are high on my list of things coming soon, though.
A:
Im just correcting your mistaken opinions... Did you dyno your car????? how do you know it didnt make more power. throw out the grounding kit everyone knows they dont make crap for power...i guess you should have researched that first. so you had a borla and a popcharger. Ive had my car for over a year and i dont need new tires yet...not even close.
"The car is tuned to the max from the factory unless you want to blow up the aluminum engine with a turbo, like others have done."
look at all those facts in that statement. wow you must of been up all night researching that one.
A:
If it doesnt take to mods well, explain the Option Magazine 350, which was set to break the road race speed record at the Silver State Classic Challenge, and ran at 201 mph before having a tire blow and wrecking. This car actually had minimal mods, and all were fairly cheap. its all about how much you know about this engine, which, apparently ZLESS, you dont. Also take into consideration that The skylines in the GT500 series in japan also uses this same engine in their swaps, which are easy to build to the specs needed, cheaply and quickly. You could even run alot more boost to it if you wanted to rebuild the bottom end, which obviously means its not tuned to the max from the factory....
A:
12.7 hp cannot be felt by a human being. That is my point. 12.7 hp will not even lower your 1/4 mile time by .1 second. What is the point of spending $1k on mods if it does nothing substantial? Do you just want to brag to your friends that you have 299.7 hp? Do you walk around with your timeslip and dyno sheet in your wallet waiting to show everyone, within an earshot, what your car can do? Do you brag that you really feel the difference in your "butt dyno". Do you have pictures of your car on your desk? If so, you might be a redneck...But seriously, if you bought the 350Z to mod, you bought the wrong car. Get a TT 300zx or Supra which have the internals to withstand modification, just like Ven100 used to say.
A:
Speaking of Ven100 are you and he the same kid? You both have similar trolling styles.
A:
I still long for a brand new TT300zx.
