A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Guys,
I have a Base Z in So Cal with only 300 miles and had the car for one week. Everynight when I am about to move the car parked from the street into the driveway ( I am the one that leaves the earliest in the morning), I hear this noise. The noise is like the disc is rubbing on something. It feels like I forget to release my hand brake. Seems like a brake pad is rubbing on to something. This only happens once a day and same time.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tony

hey tnttrac,
I have sort of the same problem when i am driving, but i believe it is just road noise. If it happens in your driveway, at the same time, maybe it is not you brakes, maybe it is the front part that scrapes the ground cuz this car is extremely low to the ground. By the way speaking of which be very careful when you park even on regular stoppers, try backwards it's the best.....Good luck

BlueZ1,
For sure it is not scraping the curb because it makes the noise as soon as the car rolls for the first 5 ft (before reaching the curb). After it is just fine. I must be paranoid.

to get the rear pads off the disks after releasing the parking brake. I get it sometimes after I've washed my car.

Rust on the rotors; happens with all cars. My rotors turn rust colored every time I wash the car.

I've noticed a slightly different variation of this when I go to back my Z out of the garage in the morning. I release the hand brake and start to roll backwards when I hear a "pop". I assumed that it was just the brake pads sticking to the discs after sitting all night - the pop is caused then the pads pop back from the discs. I'm thinking that your discs may be getting damp or something (causing adhesion) and are not allowing the pads to release all the way once you've released the hand brake. They are still semi-engaged and rubbing a little. Not sure how to fix it though.
