A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Just wondering about how much body weight affects the performance of the Z? I am 6'3" 315 (play sports for a living) (and yes, it's a tight, but comfortable fit!) and I just know it's gotta slow my car down quite a bit. But, by how much? Do I need to add mods just to get back to normal hp? LOL

The torque this car puts out is awesome.
You are in for a pleasant surprise!

The saying goes "10hp=100lbs of weight loss= .1 sec off 1/4 mile times. So essentialy since you weight 315lbs then you have lost about 30hp and will go slower by .3 sec in the 1/4 mile. However this is just a lose guideline that some follow. Essentialy weight has no bearing on the motors hp so dyno testing with 0lbs or with 500lbs will still show the same hp readings. Weight just affects how fast you will accelerate. In any case I doubt that your body weight will affect your cars performance that much. Maybe if you were racing against another 350z with a 100lbs girl driving then yes you would probably lose being that your car is carrying another 200lbs. I do know that having a passanger in your car can slow you down as my 280z slowed down by .4 secs with a 180lbs friend in the car at the track. When I rode in my friends EVO down the track his times were .2 sec slower and I weight 160lbs. In general weight does slow you down but unless you are seriously into racing I wouldn't worry about it, just have fun. Of course adding mods is always fun so I say go for it.

add a .10 in the quarter for every additional 100pds. So if you say the average guy is 180 or so your proabably down about .13 or .14 secs in the quarter with your weight. just throw an exhaust on your car and youll get rid of that weight factor :)

an exhaust will only give you 6-8 or so hp at the wheels. the exhaust system on the z is pretty good stock. throw a blower on there that will make up for it. the procharger is giving 55-60%gain in hp. its definately the best choice for the money. even though its a lot theres not other way to get as much power for that price.

If you are going for BIG performance gain, upgrade to the Supercharger over Turbo.

lose about 50lbs. it would definitely help.

All those little rules you hear work for very few situations. The infamous '100 lbs = .1 in the 1/4' is my favorite. If you manage to get 1000 lbs off the weight of your car it will be extremely fast, a lot more than a 14.2 to a 13.2 difference.
Ofcourse it will hurt your all around performance some, but at speeds higher than 40mph it probably won't be noticeable at all. Weight isn't even in the equation for top speed by the way.

I wiggle in to my Z and it is quite comfortable. I am 6' 225lbs.
This car has plenty of room and torque.
You formerly had a 350ZX?? I have never heard of this model. Is this a Nissan product?
P.S. I have had another friend riding shotgun, that is 6'3", 230 lbs and could not tell any power/torque difference/loss.
Enjoy...
