A&Q about 350Z
Q:
You should go with what the manual says to use: Mineral-based (i.e. NOT Synthetic!) 5W30.
A:
It sure would be nice if we could all come to an agreement on this.
Some ppl say use it, some ppl don't. Some ppl quote the manual as saying "don't use synthetic" ... but no where in the manual for the '04 does it say this.
The manual does say use Mineral-based, but this is not the same as saying NO to syn.
My first oil change is coming up and I've used synthetic on my past 2 cars with no issues (nice results actually)... I'd like to have some peace of mind in my choice for wanting to go synthetic on the Z.
If someone could show me factual evidence why I should stick with regular oil, I'll gladly buy it (its normally cheaper!)
If not... its Mobil 1 all the way baby!
If we can come to an agreement on mineral based oil, which brand is recommended?
A:
Z has a composit ceramic coated piston & cyl that is not to use sythetic. thats what I was told but not sure, write an email to Mobil about the Z for sure
A:
the manual doesn't say "don't use synthetic" but what it does say "use mineral-base". Question is really "is synthetic mineral-base"? This would clear up those who are iffy about this issue and play safe.
A:
Religion, sex, politics and oil are not subjects that should be discussed...
A:
regular oil breaks down quicker, because its natural. synthetic oil is man made and it does not break down as quick. Use regular oil for the break in period to make sure all the parts are sitting properly, then at about 7k, use synthetic. now about the numbers, if you leave in a state where it is cold use 5w30 in other states where it is warmer use either 5w30 or 10w30 they make synthetic in both.

I just had my 2nd oil change and i put in semi-synthetic 5w30. the dealer uses regular 10w30. my car seems to be running alittle rougher than it did. can anyone explain what may be going on?
