A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I have a new 2004 350Z with a manual 6 speed with 200 miles on it. I have never noticed it on my other vehicles (possibly due to lower HP), but when ever I accelerate I can feel the shifter knob move about 1/16 to 1/8 inch. When I release the accelerator, it goes back to the original position. Is this common to the 350Z? Is this the motor actually shifting on the mounts or is it a little slop in the manual transmission? Shifting is smooth and easy. It is just very difficult holding back for the 1200 mile break-in.
Thanks for any info you can give me......

The shift lever is massively connected to the engine to assure positive gear action. Feeling the engine rock through the lever is normal. One of those things Nissan didn't have to do but did. From the Nissan website ...

Your assumption was correct. Most decently powered rear wheel drive cars have slight shifter movement, although if it is too sloppy it can be an indication your linkage is worn and or the mounts for your transmission. Neither of those happen to a car with 200 miles on it so I wouldn't worry about it. My 300zxtt does the same thing and always has.

Mine does it in 3rd, but I have never noticed it in any of the other gears.
