A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I've got an 04 Roadster. Thought I'd dodged the tire feathering bullet. But, yesterday I noticed my tires seemed a bit louder than usual. Stopped into my Nissan Dealers service department early this morning. No appointment or anything, just dropped in. Spotted the the service manager who happened to be in on his day off (working on his F-250 pick up) asked him to take a drive in my car. He drove it, we barely left the lot when he said no doubt about it, tires are feathering. Ordered me new tires (no cost to me) should have new tires by end of week.

I have an '04 enthusiast model and had feathering at 7,500 miles approx. I got the free replacement tires from the dealer and an align with the new specs. And I have 23,000 miles on the replacement tires with no uneven wear or that !!@#!!$ noise. Now I'll tell you, 23,000 miles is about all you can expect from the stock tires anyway. Maybe more maybe a bit less depending on how you drive. They are not real high mileage tires. What it the treadwear rating? 140 I think. I know that the treadwear rating is self reported and varies by the manufacturer, but that is still pretty low regardless. Good luck with yours.

Great!
Who's going to buy your next few pairs of premature worn out front tires?

I don't consider my front tires to be prematurely worn out. I have over 23,000 on the new front tires with no unever wear and no noise. When I get news ones I'll probably have 25,000 miles on those front replacement tires. Any performance car that comes stock with soft compound high sticky tires is going to be worn out with 25,000 miles on the fronts. If you do any performance driving at all. I will replace them with the Goodyear F1s and should get about 30,000 miles per set of front tires as they should beat the stock tires in that category. Now if I wanted to sacrifice some perfomance, I could get a harder compound tire and get 35K to 40 K or more out of the fronts. But that is the decision of me, the owner, and has nothing to do with the car. This is a little more mileage (25K) than I got out of the stock front tires on my 1994 Mazda 626 with the 2.5 L v-6 and 5 speed tranny. I am just saying at this point my mileage depends on the tire I get and not on the car as I am wearing the tires on the fronts evenly and noiselessly down to where the tread is worn out. Same as with any car.

Nissan replaced my fronts and realigned at around 9,000 miles for feathering. At around 20,000 miles my rears were just about bald. My dealer had accidentally ordered rears for a previous customer(who needed fronts) and had 'em sitting on a shelf...when he noticed my rears he offered 'em to me for half price. Now I'm hittin' 45,000 miles...the rears are in bad need of replacement and the fronts are finally catchin' up enough to where i can replace all 4 at the same time.
Haven't had the tire roar since the 9,000 mile alignment.

I had 14K miles when the noise started on my 03. Dealer replaced the tires and realigned front end. I now have 31K miles with very little wear and zero noise. Rears are still in excellent shape.
