97 is good for mid 14's with a 2.2 or so 60 ft, so your car is good to go, you just launch and probably shift too slow. Don't worry, those are the cheap things to fix!

actually i could not get traction at all! i spun out all the way through first and the reaction time was .372 so that slowed me up big time......
yeah i am going back down thursday and will do it again......
i have never draged before either on the strip like that it was really kinda of scary at first......

Your reaction time does NOT factor into your 1/4 time.
Your reaction time does NOT factor into your 1/4 time.
That is used for bracket racing and other competitions. By working on your launch, on a 300hp rwd car, that usually means doing your best to get on it without losing traction. I'd start at 2800 popping your clutch then flooring it and keep moving up. Once you get to where you are getting the best 60 ft that way, you can get the rev's a couple hundred higher and feather the clutch instead of just popping it and so on.

zlover57 is right. You will get MUCH better and run quicker times from just getting experienced drag racing your 350Z at the track. You will just develop a "feel" for the launch from trial and error. My 350Z is pure stock right now (except I have a modified auto tranny) and my car is running 14.1 sec. qtrs. and 13.9 sec qtrs on a cool day. I am now comfortable with just the right amount of spinning the tires just a little bit in the burnout pre launch phase to clean the tires off. You do not need a lot of burnout to heat the tires up like with racing tires. But I do need to clean the tires off. I am running consistent 2.0 sec. sixty ft. times and that is pretty good with the stock 17 inch wheels/tires. What were your 60 ft. times? Play around and experiment and you can get your 60 ft. times down to about 2.0 secs. like mine. You will then run a much quicker qtr. mile time if you shift right. Mine is an automatic but almost all of my life has been with manual trannies so I'm used to that too. I injured my ankle is why the auto. It was the same way with the manuals, just experience will get you there.
Having said that, I fu*ked up once when the starter a couple of weeks ago did something different and I did not get to clean off my tires like I like pre race. Hell I got NO traction off the line at all, had to let off a bit, and only ran a 15 sec. qtr. Embarrassing! Now that is the only time I have run less than low 14 secs. But don't worry, anyone who has never screwed up a launch, has never drag raced, ha. I came back the next pass and ran a 14.1 sec. qtr., 2.0 sec. 60 ft. time, with a .000 reaction time. You should have heard what the announced said and the crowd cheered. Yes, that reaction time would always contain a certain amount of luck, no matter how good you get, but again you will get much better reaction times with just experience. A bad day racing is much better than a good day at work, IMO.

Yeah, spinning all the way through first gear is not good. Thats why you ran so slow. Practice is all you can do no one can tell you how to drive you just have to feel it. Though little hint slip the clutch and lay off the gas.
A:
chances are i'll be up there Thursday, so if you see a crummy z32(see cardomain) well... yeah it'll be mine.

So Zoldman...are you disagreeing with me that power shifting is bad for your clutch? I'm not clear. Yeah. drag racing is too. I guess my comment was misplaced. But as you said, 30K and going strong, with proper maintenence you can drag race and keep your engine in good condition.
I have never powershifted or drag raced my car...maybe I should?

well i would think powershifting would be hard on your whole tranny somewhat, but if you miss a gear your gonna be bouncin off the redline purdy good.

Yeah Zoldman sometimes power shifting works. But, try it with nitrous on your car sometime.
