I don't know, I think originality is fine. Not everyone will like it, so you learn to just not care. As long as you're pleased with it :)
A:

cause it takes a beautiful design and CHEAPENS the look, did i mention it looks rice

A:

as long as it doesnt really take away the lines of the car and is subtle yet noticeable i like kits. With that said i dont think a kit should be the first thing on the mod list. Id rather go a bit of performance first.

ya, actually, there are very few body kits that i think look ok on a Z. most are hideous.

Ahh...the cosmetics argument. Happens once a week.
I prefer sleepers myself. I will take a stock looking Z that can roast the tires off of most other cars over a cosmetics showpiece that is still posting stock performance numbers. Not to say I oppose cosmetics. I think subtle, tasteful mods are a great way of customizing your Z to your personal preference. Just don't disrupt the integrity of the original design...instead try to accent it. That's my philosophy.
Cosmetic mods I have or will consider:
- Wheels (I know I know, these COULD also be classified as a performance mod, but not unless you race your Z regularly)
- Tinted Windows
- Clear signals
- Side Skirts / Front Bumper
- Trim accents (Mesh grill, etc.)
- Badge removal (except for the beloved 350Z on the rear)
Not that you guys care....I think I rambled too much on this post.

i admire effort and devotion to kitting out a Z, but it just ain't my cup of tea.
new wheels, tinting, and stereo/nav is about as far as i'd go.

to me it's like everything else in life, make yourself happy and don't give a (insert your favorite word here, not cheese)... You'll never please anyone, even with the finest design of body kit.
A:

i dont really see how this looks ricey, but you know what they say about opinions

You have two kinds of people:
1) Looks People
2) Performance People
There are a few blended in there, but most of the (2) group will dislike anything you do to the bodywork. The (1) group tend to be labeled as ricers. From what I can tell, the (1) group drive their car with the hopes of attracting ladies and looks. The (2) group get high on driving at the edge.
Different strokes for different folks.
A:

I'll add that I am a group (2) purist. Performance is the end all for me, as exemplified by my stock appearance (minus the turbo logo, and stock paint stripe). The *only* modification on the outside is the exhaust, but it's hard to get anything that looks stock and performs well.
A:

drivenZ...Lookin' great!
My SB ZR still feels like HEAVEN....what a wild ride!
A:

not mine, but i wish it was :( , just a ride i posted a few threads down that i really like .... also i dont really think most modders of the Z are lumped into one category. Alot of the guys with FI or a good amount of performance mods have appearance mods as well.

Enjoy modding!

A:

oh god, please dont do that to your Z...many will attest to my pro mod sentiment, but even I draw the line somewhere and im only 22 so im not too far out of the hip youth group...lol. The V3 is so overdone it's not even funny. Not to mention your car wont look like that unless you get the fender flares and like 12in wide wheels. If you already have a TT under the hood, well then i can't really say much, but if you're running that kit on a stock engine, people that know anything about cars are just gonna laugh at you. If you're trying to get attention from highschool ricers and girls that like them, then i guess thats the kit for you.
I will not stand idly by and watch another Z end up like this

...trying to preserve the sanctity of another perfectly good Z from the horror that is "rice".

i don't really like this kit much, but this is a good example of the same body kit done the right way and the wrong way.

>But then there is the (3) group me!!! I like them both i get off on driving
> fast and when i am setting at the pump i want every body to be blown
> away as well (you know look fast when setting still)!
I concede to group (3).
A:

now we have two in the group (LMAO cantzmee)
I am glad that everyone can get along enough to take negative and positive feedback!!
I can handle both.
But i will say one thing i am glad that we are not all alike and roll stock on exterior. if so it would be a bland world and what would have to talk about!!! I tell you nothing!!

speaking of bland. count the number of white cars on the road the next time your out. it's sickening.

Most people don't like them because it makes the car look ugly while also wasting money. No one wants to see that happen to anyone.
There are some kits that 'add' to the car rather than take away, but even then it is a very expensive project done right and no real returns when you are driving the thing.

I wonder which is considered blander under this criteria?
A:

then a body kit is merely an affectation. "Dig me, my car is different just because ... I have excess cash burning a hole in my wallet and I can do it."
Just my opinion, but I'm an already admitted stock guy.
A:

exactly.. if a body kit looked good an also increased aerodynamics and downforce properties, I would say go for it, up to you buddy. I'll never criticize someone looking for function as long as it is done right.
