A&Q about 350Z
Q:
JJgdyr, Based on your input, I have purchased 4 tires. Fronbts are 245-40-18 & the rears are 275-40-18. Just hope that I don't get the feathering with these. YES, I did a 4 wheel alignment. It's like driving with glue on the bottom of the tires.

I recently got these tires on the rear and have ordered them for the fronts. I'm getting the same size fronts as you, but stayed with the stock 245-45-18 in the rear in stock 18" touring wheels. With the stock re-040's in front I have been having the VDC come on during fast curves and I think its cuz the different tires. The fronts (cupping replacements) have recently gotten super noisy at low speeds, like cupping without the cupping showing on the tires.

How much are they, installed? My local goodyear dealer quoted me at somwhere in the mid 800's.

CantZmee,
That sounds about right for OEM sizes. Mine were about a grand for the Nismo wheels (245/40/18 and 275/40/18).

I think those Goodyear F1 GS D3s are really fine tires! That's what I want to go to. Saving up money for that very purpose. Have you noticed though that you NEVER pickup a nail in your old worn out tires but change to some tires like the F1 GS D3s and it seems you attract things on the road like a damn magnet. And I don't mean a chick magnet, alas... I don't care though, I love those tires.

Yeah...I am doing the same. When I get my bonus in July I plan on buying some new tires and maybe upgrade the breathing system (intake and plenum). Probably going to take it Crawford's Z Car for the install.

That is an excellent idea. Other than going to forced induction which is pricey, a good intake plenum is one of the best power gainers around. Did you see the article in Sport Z magazine a while back? Seemed like there were 15 to 18 hp gains with Crawford plenum- across a pretty wide rpm band - that might have been that much gain at the wheels (can't remember for sure - I'll look back). The Crawford was highly rated and I have heard that from many other sources as well. The APS is a good plenum also (with the APS plenum you have to use their replacement strut tower brace if you want to continue to have a strut tower brace and I do want that brace.).
The upgraded plenum may also address the issue that our front 2 cylinders do not get as much air flow as the other 4 cylinders with the stock plenum. And the upgraded plenum should help equalize the air flow to the front 2 cylinders as well as increase airflow overall. I would think that that should have a positive infleunce on general relibility though I have seen no direct studies verifying this.
I am from TN originally and I sure as hell miss TN. (Memphis area and Savannah TN area later in high school). I still own some land (2 lots for building houses but no house on the lots) near Pinewood TN that is way the hell out in the sticks of Hickman Co and and maybe 48 miles from Nashville. Horse country around there. Good luck. Anything like the plenum that helps the engine breathe better is all good. And if you ever do go forced induction the plenum should help even more. I know the APS plenum fits right in perfectly with the plumbing of the twin turbos (or single turbo) and the Crawford probably does too with most kits.

Thanks man.........pretty much stock except for tinted windows, shorty antenna and the tires. I plan some performance mods later but no body kits. The shape is so beautiful as is, at least to me, and none of the body kits I have seen add to that. They just make it different not better. As far as the tires though: They are really great. I have to say the grip is much better than stock and they are far quieter. They are a bit lower and wider up front and rear and give the car a much more aggressive stance. However, the side-walls are definitely softer so the car has lost some of its crisp turn in on hard corners, I do miss that but don't miss the harshness over expansion joints and irregularities in the pavement on the straights I felt with the Potenzas. On the flip side though: all that road info transmitted to the driver is usually a good thing in a sports car, it's part of the experience. However, here in Michigan sometime that info is a bit too much!

Hmmmmnnnn, the sidewalls being softer should help the car get off the line a bit quicker. I like to qtr. mile race some.
