Q:
hey guys,
do you think the big mesh thing in this hood is ok? meaning, wouldn't water get right in there and screw stuff up???

Only if you drove it in the rain or took it through the car wash !

Maybe it's a strictly show car and nobody thought about water issues?
But, yes, an open vent like that is going to have water issues.
A:
as long as your intake isn't exposed, water in the engine bay wont mess anything up

CHEESE? Did someone say cheese? :)
do we know that grate isn't completely sealed underneath?
Believe only what you think, not what you feel.
A:
Leave a gaping hole in your hood while you drive around for a week in those Florida storms I know occur, and then tell us what your engine compartment looks like.
You seem to revel in being obtuse.
A:
some of the carbon fiber hoods i've seen come with "ventliners". it's a plastic insert that screws underneath the openings to close them off. i assumed this was to keep rain out.
if all it's going to do is make it dirty i can live with that. i clean my engine every week anyway.
i did a lot of searching on this topic on other forums and it didn't seem like anyone had solid answers, so i thought i'd try you guys.
thanks

BLUZTRK.. i just noticed your question. no, it's not closed off under the vent. water can get through.

i must be the master of searching...they make vent liners, some CF hoods come with them, not sure about that seibon. Also some of the guys on th thread with vented hoods said the water didnt really get into the engine bay at all without the liner, but im not sure what kind of hood they had. The liner is the black plastic in the middle of the hood and its removable btw

ya, i found that same thread. there's no liner for the seibon. at least none i could find. i bought the hood off ebay. it took the guy 2 months to send it to me. when i got it i realized how big the vent really is and that's when i started worrying about water.
i may just try it for awhile without a liner and see how it goes. i guess i could try to make something to cover it when it rains.

Did you already order the hood?
Good point with the liners. Although I have to ask the question...are you buying the hood merely for cosmetics. I mean putting a hood like this on your car makes it a cosmetic showpiece. Which is fine btw, just wondering what your reasoning was. I bet it will look sweet. Just make sure not to follow to close to trucks and SUV's...one stray rock of any material girth could severly damage a CF hood like that.

ahh...yea you could probably hit up home depot and fab something to cover the hole up. Some kind of thin rubber or plastic to go on the outside that sits on top of the vent maybe

that's a nice hood but it looks like the rise in front of the vent might be a little high... can't wait to see pics.. :-)
that would match really nice with my CF spoiler... already looking for a nice piece like that for mine... but...
do you think that eventually you can have "too much" carbon fiber?

I think you've got to be careful in planning how you use it. Or else it'll look like a complete mess. Visualize ;) haha
