Seat Fabric

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

As you all know the seats in the 350z ware out from the sides you get
in and out from.Well I have been trying to find the fabric to take them to
get reupholstered but no one seems to have the exact fabric. They have
some similar to it but it’s not the same. I called the dealer and the only
thing they can do for me is order me the whole seat covers new which I
have to pay for. Does anyone know where I can find this fabric??
Thanks... I have the black interor fabric seats ..

Is your Z still under warranty? If so, there is a TSB for this and you can get yours replaced by the dealer for free. That is what I did. If you are over the 3yr/36k warranty though, you will have to pay.

Gang,
I too had this same problem with my 2003 Touring 6 speed. My dealer replaced the leather seat back at that time. Now my car is long out of warranty. But my seat bolster is as good as new. My secret? It’s how you get into and out of the "Z". If you get in the same way that you get out you will no longer have a problem with wear on the seat. Think about it. It works.

what does the tsb say about the fabric seats?
A:

It's hard to believe people are still having this problem in the year 2006, the reason I say this is because I owned a 1972 Datsun 240Z that had the same problem, the seats in that car were made out of vinyl ( not cloth or leather ) and the seats wore out in the same place. I really think it's not the material the seats are made of but just a bad design of the seats.
I owned a lot of cars since my 240Z and "never" had a problem with seats wearing out prematurely ( leather or cloth )
I now own a 2006 350Z with leather seats, I guess time will tell if they wear out like my 1972 240Z. By the way i'm not a very big person, i'm 6' about 200 lbs, in 1972 my weight was about 30 lbs. less

Only problem is that the dealer will only replace the worn out seat cover, so if you're anything like me you're usually the only one getting in and out of it constantly since I have two other rides to pick up friends and what not in, so you'll get the drivers side seat cover replaced but be 'stuck' with the thin fabric seat cover on the passenger side...unless you're willing to take a few light strokes with 120 grit sand paper to the same bolster locations on the passenger seat until you match the light fuzzy fraying as on the drivers side to get them both replaced :)
My 3/36K warranty was close to expiring and I knew I wouldn't have the same wear patterns on the passenger side by then, so I'm not saying it's the best thing to do but unless you have a passenger get in/out as many times as you do, you will have to live with two different fabric materials (thicker on the drivers side and thinner on the passenger side), which I wasn't.
