Why no turbo in an auto...go drive a WRX with an automatic and then with a stick....you will see. I drove an 04 WRX with an auto and it was a joke...you couldn't even tell there was a turbo. I even drove an 05 and an 06 manual back to back and of course I went 06.
May having a turbo with an automatic depends on the car but I would never get one that way.

It does. all turbos and all cars are not created equal. Greg Dupree's automatic TT Z runs the 1/4 in 9 seconds.

stock for stock, the Z32 TT automatic is quicker than the stock manual Z32 TT... not as fun to drive, though - but quick.
A:
Depends on what you mean by 'quicker'. 1/4, maybe. People say you can hold boosts during the shifts, and that makes it quicker. Well,
If you hold the gas down during shifts, the boost doesn't drop significantly on a 5spd. The autos have 20 less horsepower. The autos have at least 5% more drivetrain loss. 0-60, I bet the auto is quicker due to gearing and ease of launching it, moreso than not. But after that it is ALL arguable.
Sorry for getting off topic. Under 40k sedan? Go find a slightly used M45 and wipe everything else off the expressway. Any hint of lessened reliability will be offset by less depreciation by a long shot. You can get an almost new 04 GS400 for that as well, and it will last half a million miles even if you go across oceans in it on a fishing trip.

I wouldn't consider an accord for a sporty sedan, but they certainly don't perform like slugs. The 03+ V6 accords, even auto and sedan form, can defeat most sportscars around that price range in the 1/4 mile. I found the power a little rediculous for an accord, 14 sec 1/4 and very low 6's in the 0-60 sprint, great torque.

I have rented the new Charger and I was very surprised with the power and control it had to be a car for less than $30k. It had plenty of room for whatever you wanted to haul and given its price you would not mind your muddy dog getting in.
A:
Let me preface my response with a "I'm not bashing our Z, as I am a proud owner of a 350Z" but I am a big fan of a deal of any manufacture out there producing a clear example of great bang for the buck vehicle.
CantZmee:
Not a fan of a powerful beast of a ~$30K (Hemi Version) 4 door sedan that can keep up with our beloved Z sports car (given...probably only in the straights) or its sooped up big brother the SRT8 that can handily beat our Z's in the straights, braking department, and probably keep up in the twisties ....all stock without a turbo and a manufacture's warranty? Interesting, very interesting.
JLR/Justinhenry:
How are they too big? Yes they're big and brawny looking, since they're going after that whole presense factor, but let's compare numbers to numbers and not just opinions. I think eveyone would agree that a Honda 4dr sedan is nowadays what is considered as a normal sized sedan.
As you can see if you consider 5.7 in longer, and 1.2 in taller 'too big', then ok...but it's big looking because of it's proportions (huge shoulder look on the hood and rear), I mean a Honda looks smaller because of the slanted hood since it's fwd.
I've test driven a Dodge Magnum for fun in my hometown because they didn't have a Chrysler dealership but they're pretty responsive, and that was a mid level 3.5L, not the Hemi.
I would strongly consider them as the SRT8 is a beast in all regards, power, brakes, and even handling for such a 'too big' car. :)

In response to your question: Nope.
Here's an analogy for you: Indianapolis Colts - Almost perfect season, arguably one of the best quarterbacks in history, great team unity, textbook execution, heartwrenching drama surrounding the coaches loss of a son to suicide and almost coming back to win the Super Bowl. Got a lot of good stuff going for them.
Not a fan. Just my opinion though.

mag,
if you want to compare the honda accord to the 300 then i just have one argument.
curb weight:
Accord (varies based on trim) from 3100lbs to 3400lbs.
300 (varies based on trim) from 3700lbs to 4000+lbs.
also, i haven't driven the 300, but i can't imagine it handles very well in corners.

A:
cantZmee: I like your short answer, but poor analogy. I mean while I may not be a Colts fan, I can and do appreciate what they have done season in and season out these last couple of years. So you're saying that you just don't like the car, ok, not everyone liked it, just like not everyone likes our Z because its big a$$ rear end, celica front end, squashed beetle look, wanna be TT clone, etx everyone has their view on it....just like any other car, so I respect your opinion of not likeing it but since you didnt' give a clear reason I was confused as to how you could not at least respect such a vehicle that hauls a$$.
Justinhenry: Sure I hear you that the 300C weights more but the SRT8 has a beefed up suspension that the lesser 300C's don't have. Look this thing is meant to be a perfomer for a all out full size sedan, which I am positive if you take a Honda Accord anything it will not keep up with a SRT8 in any regard, acceleration, handling, or stopping. Don't believe me, read some reviews with numbers based on the thing's tests.

A:
What matters curb weight if the car outperforms the Accord in every other aspect? Accord is a FWD car. 300C is RWD - which means that it will naturally handle better.
This isn't a close argument. These are not cars that should be compared regardless.
The 300C corners quite well, btw.
Believe only what you think, not what you feel.
A:
Not that I care if you don't like the car since I don't own one, but as a true car enthusiast it's hard not to be impressed by the numbers since they don't lie. I agree that this isn't a real comparison because they are totally different cars but I was simply stating which car is a 'better sedan' performance wise and bang for the buck. Since I don't want to be called on anything I am putting the sources of the numbers I am quoting so as to not be flamed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
300C SRT8
From Car And Driver
Acceleration:
"The SRT8 will bust through 60 mph in 4.7 seconds on its way to a 13.2-second quarter-mile at 109 mph." (again it will spank us) :(
Braking:
"The brakes are also up there with the finest from the autobahn nation. Stops from 70 mph take only 162 feet of real estate, and these brakes do so over and over again with no sign of fade."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh and just to give you a good comparison with a undoubtable performer, the new C6 Vette's acceleration 0 - 60 mph is 4.7 second, braking distance from 70-0 is 166 feet, so it would keep up with and brake better than America's icon sports car...I can't believe how anyone can't appreciate any sedan that can do that, even one that is 'too big'.

Dude: Yeah from what I hear it should be one pretty quick Passat, but for over $80K, it's only packing 450HP and gets to 60mph in 4.7 seconds....more HP than that 300C SRT8 but with the same 0-60 times...not impressive for such an expensive VW and for a V8 twin turbo if you ask me.

Bores you? Pshaw! lol That RS6 is a beautiful fully steriod injected car. That thing is the class of the road!
Of course, it is still not a fair comparison to a 300C SRT-8. It's like comparing a Z06 Vette to a Ferrari. Comparable performance numbers, but completely different social stratospheres.
Believe only what you think, not what you feel.
A:
Anyways guys...unlike others who can't understand the original poster's question, he asked about sedans no more then $40K....which I provided him some facts, so if you feel the need to spend well over $80K (which I doubt you can even afford) for some fancy VW, go right ahead.
You all know almost all 'luxury' brand named cars have thier lesser luxury start, (Infinit/Nissan, Lexus/Toyota, Audi/VW, Lincoln/Ford, Cadillac/Chevrolet, etc)...there are only a small handful of cars out there are don't have a lesser car to base off of. So if paying lots more for a generic base...go for it.

the rs4 is more like 65k and you get a beefier engine, better suspension, better brakes, all wheel drive, etc. it's not like buying generic aspirin where it's the exact same thing, only cheaper.
you're right though... it doesn't fit into the original poster's question, but it's my fav sport sedan.

Knowing audi's hard depreciation and poor reliability, it's hard to get very excited about them. They just seem inferior to BMW's and Benz's for one reason or another. Not saying they don't make some fast cars, but I look deeper than face value.
