A&Q about 350Z
Q:
My sister has a 96 300Z that wears tires out quickly (inside ribs). I know the early 350Zs also had this problem. She's fallen in love with the new violet color on the 06. Has Nissan fixed their tire problems?
A:
there isnt really a need to worry about the 06's...the problems with the 03's and 04's have pretty much been eliminated or reduced to the point thats it's a non-issue

yeah the bulletin called for new tires and an update on the alignment specs for the 03 and some 04. just remember that the factory potenza only has a lifespan of about 13k and even less if you get into the gas a lot, some people get more, most get less, the michelins are your best bet after wearing them out. 140 treadwear doesn't go very far...

i would say 13k is an understatment..i dont think most people are getting that little with even tread wear. My rears lasted me just about a 20K and while i don't do burnouts i take corners hard and let the rear break loose occasionally.

I'm at over 40,4XX miles on my second set of the stock Potenzas, so if you're only getting 13K miles, I say you're being too aggressive on them. I'm getting ready to slap some Michellin Pilot Sports on it sometime this week.

Thanks everyone for the 411. Sounds like all she has to do is save her money for the extra $500 purple paint.
As far as her 96 is concerned, she's been trying to keep it in alignment. She even went to a shop that offered 1 yr alignments so she could go back every few months. I took the opportunity to look thru the 90-96 tech talk and came across the 300degree kit. She also has the same problem with the rears and someone recommended a HICAS fix (I know a thing or two about cars but I don't know what that is). Anyway, I've passed these tips on to her. She might have to spend $250 for the various fixes but should be able to avoid buying more tires before she gets that 06 she wants.

I'm on my second set on the front on my '04 Touring. I thought that they had did a front end alignment the first time they replaced the tires (they had my car for 3 weeks making the decision) but apparently they did not because the paperwork said the front end was way out of spec. I have 1500 miles on this second set with 27K on the car. There has been other problems like the CD, gas door, flow meter. This is like the days when I owned a AMC Hornet. That car had 4 separate recalls, not just TSB's.
Anyway, I enjoy the car.

as far as the 13k, thats what i'm seeing a lot of at the dealership, of course a lot of these people never pay attention to their tire pressure and of course some have lead feet, and yes we see some with 25k on them that are driven easy. the soft tires are often matching the worn out brakes because they dig into our crappy roads better than some of the harder compounds.
